I went and looked at some today here are my thoughts.

Pros.
1.they do look cool even the tele looks cool
2. they sound great
3. they feel good in your hands
4. SUPER Light

Cons
1. they cost way to much $1000 give me a break
2. besides the weight no better than any other MIM
3.you pay $1000 and get a deluxe gig BAG WHAT the hell is that about no hardcase. I got a gig bag with my $300 dollar MIM
4. NO LEFTY Were there no left handed people in the 50s and 60s I think not.

So for me i will not be buying a road worn anything. But those who do will most likely love it as much as i love my $300 MIM. Just my 2 cents .

Have a great day!

I cant see anyone paying american standard prices to get a standard guitar and being happy with it as a players guitar in that price bracket. A nice ornament but not worth the price as a players instrument. theres a lot better out there for the money.

I am with you nik I played one of these and they are nice but not 1000. dollar nice not even close to that. I wont even pay 550. for a MIM Strat though I had no problem with 450. but the other is pushing it. And the Roadworn no way before that I would buy a Swampcaster or a Swampcaster T for a few hundred less and get a nice Swamp Ash guitar.

Yah, I gotta disagree with Fender here, if I want a worn guitar bad enough to pay that much I'll use some sand paper. :D

Here's the thing. Before, you either had a real worn guitar, or you bought a Custom Shop. But all these options were unique looking.

With a road worn series, I'm guessing the "worn" part will be pretty much the same on them all. In a year or two, any road worn guitar will be seen 100X times, they won't be unique since you'll immediately look at it and say "Oh yeah, the olympic white 60's strat. The exact same wear marks as the last 99 I saw around."

People will slowly stop buying them and in less than 5 yrs they'll just stop making them from no further demand.

For now though? Great business decisions. They'll sell a ton for a few years, and spark more interest in non-shiny-bright-white-gym-shoe-looking guitars.

LOL! or like in my case, it fell off the guitar stand.... now I have a road worn.... or would that be a "floor worn"? So did my MIM just increase in value?

I saw the black telecaster, and I'll tell you, to me it didn't look like real wear, it looked horrible. The rosewood fretboard didn't look nearly as bad as the RW strat I saw a while ago with a maple, but I can't see putting down that much cash, when a CP 60's is right beside it, and for less money.

I just played a 60s Strat and I really liked it. More then any other $1000 guitar I've played, but not as much as I liked the SRV signature that I tried. If I could find a 60s Road Worn for $700 or less I'd buy it in a heartbeat (if I happened to have any money at the time).

I'm not impressed at all with the Road Worn series. I love old guitars just as much as anyone but I like old, well cared for guitars. If Fender is going to try to cash in on the fake vintage market, they should at least make them look like they've been decently cared for.

My list of pros and cons on the Road Worn Strat:
Pros:
Nitrocellulose finish lets the wood breathe but the beauty of the nitrocellulose is ruined with the "aging" process.
Soft "V" shaped neck with less finish is very comfy but fretboard is ruined with "aging" process.

Cons:
Way too expensive.
Lousy 6-point tremelo.
Snaggy vintage style string tree.
$1000 guitar with a gig bag?!?

In my opinion, just buy an American Series for the same money. You'll get better tuners, bridge and string tree and you'll have a story that will go with every nick, scratch and ding in a few years of owning it.

i don't understand why any one would buy them anyway..

the best way to have a nice, aged guitar (and yes it's been said before) is to play, play, play!!

not just buy a guitar to look good..

It is a disgrace you dont even get a hardcase for that money - I mean how much does one actually cost for Fender

Well I just bought a Road worn 50,s in black. I have several Americans including a 62 RI. I paid 830 dollars for my road worn. I do like it and for just over 800 bucks its worth it if you have the money. I will change the pu,s to custom shop 69s and thats about it. Ive been playin the hell out of it and it stays in tune as good as my others. Ive played worse that cost more.

I compared it to the American standard, and honestly I didn't like the American standard at all. And I wasn't comparing looks, just feel and sound. I didn't really have time to look closely at either one of them, but I got a fairly amount of time playing them. I mainly liked the neck of the Road Worn, nice bare wood feel and the '60s C neck was chunkier than the one on the Am. Standard. That said the fretwork on the Road Worn wasn't as good, but a good guitar tech could take care of that.

I agree with that philosophy, but the fact is that few strats have that nitro finish. And all the "normal" strats will a poly finish will NEVER wear like that. Poly is strong, super thick and will last forever. So the person that plays the hell out of his poly finish strat, fof 8 hrs, every single day, "might" start to see something that resembles a road worn in about 50 yrs - and that's no exagerration. So unless they have the $$$$$$$$$$ for a true vintage, $$$$$$ for a custom shop, or the $$$ for a Road Worn, they'll never have a guitar that looks like that, so they go with the cheapest route.
