Hello to all. I´m new here and I´d like to ask you guys if the Deluxe Schaller locking Machine heads would fit the American Standards.. I just bought a beautiful Sienna Sunburst HSS with maple fretboard and I´m considering the possibility of changing the machine heads, so I could use the trem without having to retune all the time. I know the Schallers come with the Deluxe Strats but I´m not sure if it would fit the Standard Strats..anyone knows if they fit ?

Thanks to all in advance !

Hi Gustavo Mesquita: those locking tuners will go on an Am Std with little or no hassle. They are good tuners: it's a nice upgrade.

However, they are unlikely to solve tuning issues, because it is most unlikely that the current machines are where your problem lies. We can all discuss that at great length here if it would help. Though if you look back through the Forum for threads with titles like "tuning problems" and "intonation issues" you will find it has been covered exhaustively many times before.

Let us know if we can help...

Cheers - C

The Schallers each have two stabilizationg pegs or pins in the corners on the back of the tuner housing opposite the knob handle. They fit in two predrilled holes lined up for each tuner hole. If your headstock has two pre-drilles holes at the corners opposite the knob, they Schallers will fit right in.

BigJay is right.....it looks like the picture i post below.Look at the circled picture.....If you're not competent please do bring it to your guitar tech for the mods.

+1 -- Agree with that. Lubricate the nut, saddles, and string trees with graphite. See how that improves things. If it still is not stable enough, consider going with no float (bridge flush against the body). You do all that, and I think you will see a huge improvement. Like Ceri said, the locking tuners are a nice upgrade, but will not help the reason why you are putting them on.

Well, It´s not that I have an issue with tuning.. is that I thought the Locking system would be a plus, you know ? The guitar stays in tune with no problems, but when you start using the trem frequently, detuning is bound to happen. I have another guitar, a Japanese Stratocaster with a Floyd Rose, and the locking system works beautifully. I can abuse the trem without detuning the instrument.

Since I don´t want to install a Floyd Rose, I thought that maybe the tuners with a locking system could work in the same way, allowing me to use the trem without detuning the guitar.

Hi Gustavo: just check that you understand what locking tuners do. It is a different thing entirely to what the locking mechanism with a Floyd does. The word "locking" is refering to two different issues...

My Strats stay in tune fine with medium type trem use. I think 01GT eibach's suggestions are the right ones regarding tuning stability.

Still think the tuners are a nice upgrade, though!

Good luck - C

The Schaller Locking Tuners would be a very nice upgrade. However, unless your guitar has a proper complete setup locking tuners will not help in the stability you are looking for.
