Have you ever (recently especially) been in the predicament where you need to sell stuff to augment your dwindling income and had to choose a couple guitars to sell? Then you decide to sell your prized Fender but just can't do it? :)

It was a hard decision and I specified in the craigslist ad that they'd be prying it out of my hands. Started at $700 and dropped to $500 (for a $1600 American Deluxe in excellent shape) but people were hinting at $400 and $350. I mean, should I just give the guitar free to the first show or what?

In the end, I decided that I was done with the games and haggling and decided to keep it while living with a bit less finances. This is one of my favorite guitars and one of the best Fenders that I've owned in the past 25 years. It may be an ugly Teal Green but I love the feel, sound, and tone too much to justify such disregard.

Just a rant. :D

beauty is in the eye of the beholder. No one else will ever truely understand your treasured guitar.

Personaly I cant see me ever selling my first and favourite strat neck. Thats all thats left of the guitar now after modding it to death. I still miss some of the lesser original parts and am currently painting the new body after filling in the damaged areas.

Sell anything but your axe mate. You never forget them or get a half decent money amount when compared to what its worth to you. You dont have to tell me about no money either, i'm applying for a mcdonalds job next week. Were all feeling the pinch.

It really was a hard decision to sell any guitars but the situation requires it - I'll be moving to a new house soon (don't ask) and need as much backup finances as can be garnered. I had two Fenders: the American Deluxe and a VG Strat. Unfortunately, the VG Strat was put on the chopping block. But the other will remain as I can't really part with it.

The only other expensive items that I have to sell are my computers but that is also my business (computer programmer) so it is a no-brainer that these must remain in order to at least continue a struggle for income.

I may be seeing you at McDonalds soon. ;) Hey, I have a very short stint of experience there in my youth, eh? It is sad when a veteran computer programmer with nearly twenty years experience cannot even earn what a burger-flipper earns. Sad indeed...

I think I'd sell just about everything else I own, before my guitar stuff-with a couple of exceptions, that I rarely, if ever use anymore.

I sold effects and regretted it. Amps too and regretted it. I never sold any of my guitars. I still have the one I learned on in 1963. I'd go flip burgers before I'd sell one of them. They're an extension of my soul.

I'd sell my body organs before I would part with my main 2 axes.

Hello Kuroyume and All,

I'm at the other end of the seesaw,
I buy and sell guitars with regularity
I've had some for decades and some
for only a few hours. I enjoy the heck
out of the guitars I own and have owned.
There'll always be another for me to explore.
Family, friends, God & country is where I place
my attachments. It worked for the last half century
{For me}.

Cheers.

I'd regret selling some of my guitars if I had to but there's always a better guitar around the corner. I love em but let's face it, they're not one of a kind irreplaceable.

My criteria for selling a guitar is;
"Is this guitar unique? Will I be able to find another one just like it in the future? Does it have a truly unique sound, feel, look? Does it talk to me?
If I think it is a one-of-a-kind sorta guitar, and I love it, I keep it. If it is a run of the mill kinda guitar, sell it. My collection is up to 22 guitars.
I sold a 1980's Gibson Les Paul Custom Silverburst cuz I wanted a cherry sunburst finish instead. I wish I had kept the Silverburst. Much less common than the cherry sunburst LPs. I really regret selling it. It kills me to this day that I was so stupid to get rid of a more rare guitar for something that is easy to find.
