OK, here, goes:

Stevie Ray Vaughan died before I was born. My Dad came downstairs one night, looked at me and said, "You're watching Stevie Ray Vaughan tonight." I look quite confused, not knowing who he was.

This next Monday will be seventeen years since he died. My Dad was upset beyond words when it happened. He didn't even think about having his guitar lesson that night... yeah, he was that upset.

Anyway, my point is that Stevie made a big impact on my life and my Dad's life. I think that Stevie Ray was the best guitar player to ever live. His music means a lot to me. But nobody remembers him!

So, remember Stevie Ray, and if you have anything to say, as well, please say it. Thanks so much.

definitely a great player, not my favorite, but he made some great songs and a lot of cool covers... i'm pretty sure a lot of people know about him as well.... those are my thoughts, but why is this in the stratocaster forum?

Yes absolutely. He made an impact on my life and style. It's because of him i bought a wah. Because of jimi i bought a distortion pedal. Because of Eric i got a strat. because of jimmy i bought a marshall.

You should so totally check out robin trower too. He is also another guitarist many don't know about.

Why Wouldn't it be in the Forum the guy's got his own artist series!
Anyway Stevie Ray Vaughan to me is what Blues/Rock is all about.
Now He'one of the main reasons I'm proud to be a Texan (don't get confused I have both belgian and US nationality)
He is one of my guitar Heroes, I might have only been a year old when he died but I grew up with his music.
And all these Songs are forever inbedded in my memory!!

So I will Always Remember SRV :!:
So much That I'm savin' up for the SRV strat!

^ i would have put it in the fender lounge general discussion, since the post really isn't about strats even though he played them... it was about him

I second that opinion. I have no problem with that whatsoever.

Does it really matter? Cut the guy some slack.

Serously, I feel you. I know he's impacted my life as amusician and as an idol. I wish more people knew about him. I know Lenny got me through some rough times, as sappy as that sounds. he was true pioneer and a true man.
I wish I could have experienced when he was alive and not just through spirit.

I'm older than many here. I saw Stevie Ray live in South Padre in 1986. The guy was amazing live. He could do stuff with a Stratocaster that nobody else does. He was unique.

It was a time of year - spring break - when people are cutting loose and that crowd was absolutely insane. I was right up by the stage and he had a kind of look - he was in the zone, not even checking out the bouncing berserk bikinis while he played some unbelievable lead. It was a free concert too. He just did it for all of us because it was a giant party and he was in it too. It's my favorite music moment over other concerts of my youth like Van Halen, because it was so real and the playing outshone anything I ever heard before. He burned the guitar too but put it out and I think kept playing it. Amazing performance.

Hi, I also got the chance to see SRV & Double Trouble Live in Florida 1984
"Couldn't Stand The Weather" Tour. His brother's band The Fabulous Thunderbirds opened the show. Stevie & Jimmy did some numbers at the end of the show. Excellent Show- it's an understatement, but the best I can do.

SRV to me has changed not only how the Blues is played but also how it's heard forever. Stevie is such a great talent that the Blues world feels different without him. He will always be missed, but one thing I'm sure is that there's some SRV in all of us. I can hear it in the new blues artist of today.

Thanks, guys, I really mean it. Moon boy? HA!!! Love it... my favorite SRV song is Life By The Drop. Every gig I play, I play it at... even though it really talks about getting over an alcohol addiction. Whatver. Anyway, I've talked to a couple of guys that saw Stevie, and they said it was phenomenal. I appreciate all the feedback. Later!
