Ceri are you going to be checking in with us, on your break, or will you be away from a computer?

I think it's totally, totally bizarre! I thought this geeky little thread would get about 200 views...

Ain't complaining though!! Been a heap of fun! I just have to do some decent photography to round it off in appropriate style. Gimme a few days - nearly there!

Cheers - C

When can we expect a grand unveiling?

I reckon we could see something in a week. Maybe even apr 1st to be in keeping with the ineptitude of the seller of the body.

Hi Ceri, hope you're good.

I don't want to be annoying to everyone, but Ceri, you have to bring that to the jam we're meeting up for sometime so I can have a strum! And I won't whoop you, I'm only 18 (19 next week)!

Ed

Hey Ed: you're obviously living in a different universe than me - since when did 18 year olds not want to tan the hides of forty-somethings?

Let's get together for a drink sometime and talk about it. Which part of town are you based in?

***

Anyhow. Just so's y'all don't think I've forgotten about this thing, and to maintain the pretence that this is still a serious building thread, here's a couple of pics of polishing (yes, that bod has now had all the drying time it's gonna get!):
Image

In my glamorous custom shop the kitchen worktop doubles as buffing station. Above we're working our way up the grades of wet-and-dry paper, starting at P1000, then P1500 and finally P2000. Used soaking wet with a little dishwashing detergent in the water for lubrication. Note, plenty of Plymouth Gin helps the process no end. I wonder if any keen eyed folk know what that bottle to the right of the gin is...?

Back in the distant mists of this thread Mr shane0685 talked about his very fine abrasives:

The polishing cloths I use are: 1800, 2400, 3600, 4000, 6000, 8000 and 12000 grit. Use them in order and you get a glass-finish before you even use any kind of wax or protectant. ~ Shane

That got me curious so I sent off for a set of Micro Mesh pads, which is what I presume he's talking about:
Image

That's probably the self same set that Shane has, running up the grades to 12000 grit. So I did a little experiment and buffed the front of the body with the Micro Mesh pads, working methodically through the grades, and did the back of the body by my usual method of polishing with automotive cutting cream.

Frankly, I think it made no noticeable difference, except that the Micro Mesh took longer. In fact, I still wanted to give the front of the body a quick rub over with polish after just to bring it to a top gloss. I can see that the Micro Mesh will be very handy for spot repairs; for buffing a guitar body it ain't really practical - IMHO.

Now gents. Not trying to mess with you, but I have in fact slapped this guitar together. It looks great!

I've done some nice photos, but there's a couple more shots I'd like to get, and I want to put them in front of you all at one go. So you're just going to have to wait another day or two: like David Lean I'm waiting patiently for just the right light...

Nearly, nearly there... - C

Ceri you are a Man of many Talents. I just enjoy the way You stage the photographs, they are very well done and as you would see a professional would do for some kind of a do it yourself manual.

Wow, that's a nice thing to say: thank you! You're The Man and no mistake.

Now I'm just itching to show you the photos of the finished beast that I've already taken. But I just mustn't! If I can get what I want tomorrow then I'll post everything at once.

Or the next day...

I thought perhaps it's the equivalent of a Lillet, for the making of the James Bond Martini, but my quick google doesn't support that. It's an Altar Wine, so?

So? Just wondered if anyone's upbringing would instantly provide the answer.

I have absolutely no memory of how I came by it, but when my then-wife-to-be and I consolidated households she was most surprised to find that bottle amongst my collection. What with her convent schooling and all.

Execrable stuff, as it turns out. Purely an ornament.

Cheers - C
