Hello all,

this is my first post here so here goes...

I have been in love with the strat sound since i started playing when i was younger. however, the only electrics ive owned have been Gibsons. I have a decent Fender acoustic but what i really want is a strat. I was thinking about it and it seems pretty simple to make a guitar. the wiring seems to be the most difficult portion of the build and im not that bad of an electrician. how much would it cost to build a basic Fender Strat? I wouldnt want to get too fancy with it... single coil pickups, ect... where would i look to get genuine Fender parts? any help is greatly appreciated!

Brian

you can get fender parts at:

Warmoth.com
guitarcenter.com
musiciansfriend.com
callaham.com
sweetwater
ebay

and no doubt tons of other places. but honestly, you could probably get a MIM strat nicely appointed for the same expense of building one.

Best of luck either way!

I built a Warmoth body, MIJ Big headstock neck, Texas Special. I modified a MIM Special Edition HSS with active EMG 85/SA/SA pickups and electronics a few years ago, each cost around $650.00 by the time I was done. They both sound way better than stock MIM strats. Both play like dreams. It was well worth it. If you do nothing else to a MIM go to better pickups. You can find the wiring schemtics right on the Fender site and EMG actives come with them. The soldering is pretty easy.
