i have a '97 mim squire strat that i want to throw some new tuning pegs on... i'm looking at gotoh sg38's. does anyone know if these should be a direct fit?

the current cheapo tuner have a one screw on the lower left side and one on the upper right. it looks like the lower left screw hole will work with the gotoh's.

Depending on the country of origin, Squier specs are all over the map so it's tough to give a definitive answer. Having said this, from memory and experience, I think that lower screw hole you refer to will work but the screw will go in at a slight angle with the Gotohs. The shafts on the Gotohs however, will most likely be too thick. Consequently, the post holes in the headstock will have to be enlarged to accomodate them.
