my friend was having trouble fitting the battery in his strat and doesn't want to route it or block the trem ( mine is routed out). so i was thinking about other ways to power it. Could i just take 3 2025 watch
batteries (3v each) and stack them. take a battery clip and trimmed the leads to about
3/4 inch long and stripped about 1/4" down. then solder the ends to 1/4 circles of
shielding tape. and then stick the - side to the + of the battery and the + lead to the
-. Would that work or could you come up with another way??? your help is greatly appreciated.

There is a way of placing it inside the control cavity, although i couldnt do it. The body of my strat with the boost is minimum routed though. He may have better luck.
This guy does it and shows you how too.

I'm thinking about those electro-acoustics that have their battery dangling in a little velcro'd bag near the output/tail strap button, to save routing a battery box hole in the woodwork.

So presumably you could put the battery in a small bag like this one:

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics ... y_Bag.html

Affix it to the strap near the tail and run the wires discreetly in through the string holes in the backplate.

Sounds a horrible idea to me: I'd just route a small cavity off the spring cavity or perhaps beneath the pickguard.

But it's a thought to throw into the mix.

More bits and pieces on this page:

Another way is feeding a current in via a two way stereo cable system - very complicated...

Cheers - C

The hardest part i had was cramming the stereo jacksocket into the body. I still dont quite know how i managed it without it shorting out. If I'd had a dedicated rear cavity i wouldnt of bothered. I'd just unhook the battery.

Its better to place the power supply in the tremelo spring cavity for ease of replacement. I only have have 3 springs on my trem which leaves plenty of room a 9v battery.

I'd be carefull with such a idea. Should something go wrong with the lead or box your in trouble. Also how would you wire the positive and negative wires to the jackplug?

Alain that gold is gorgeous. Fancy selling the guitar :P

yeah its ok. Very comfortable, very resonant. The polyurethane finish is great, i think i prefer it to nitro. simply for its durability, the wood quality of the guitar maybe makes up for any resonance damping that urethane suposedly causes. Maybe urethane dampening resonance is just bunkum though. The neck feels quite fat for a modernC shape, it could be down to the slab rosewood board's thickness. The 2point trems great now that its set the way i want it. Far easier to use than a 6point vintage type which is still my favourite. The pickup's and switching are identical to a american deluxe, no bad thing.
What i really like about the guitar are the little things. The attention to detail of the neck pitch is marvelous. I've had laser levels over the thing. Back of the headstock and top of the neck pocket are absolutely parallel to the line of the body. The neckpocket is unfinished too, something fender should do on all their guitars if it produces these neck pitch results.

Not a bad thing is it.

All that said, i got the guitar for the bargain price of £1k. If i didnt have that option and had to buy new i dont think i could of justified buying it.

Installation certainly looks a lot easier. Worth a try price and ease wise.

Frankly, I would think that a foot pedal would do a better job where you do not have to 'fret' with all the conversion aspects of an on-board booster and with the pedal, you can tailor the sound to your personal specifications as well. Also, that tone pot you were prepared to give up for the gain pot can now be used as a blend pot.

Either way, the 9V battery does fit in the Strat's control cavity. Simply wrap electrical tape around it for insulation, turn it sideways and place it in the area between the volume pot and the toggle.

As to the disk type batteries, they will wear down too quickly.
