thanks! I appreciate that. I know someone wanted to see a close-up of the hardware, so here it is, you can always go to the google site I set up, but I can post a close up... I'll post a big one for ya

also, some people have been saying i should hit the guitar with some keys to make it look less artificial... I have to say I am nervous about doing that... thoughts, opinions?

Any other ideas for this baby? Anyone think i should hit the tuners with another round of acid fume to make them more pitted?

Guitar Hurricane --

By the way, your method was pretty cool! The aged plastic was done to your exact instructions and personally I think it came out really cool... maybe a bit yellow (I had those parts in there a while -- I tend to go overboard), but I like it...

I just wanted to give you your shout for your impact on the mojo of this project.

much love bro.

Woah! The guitar came out looking great i really didnt think the plastic parts would turn out as good as they did. As for hitting the guitar with some keys sometimes it comes out looking a little fake to me. But if you remove the bridge spring cover and wear a belt buckle while playing will wear the paint off in that area. I guess you could just try sanding that area with your buckle if you like.

I just wanted to revive this thread because I finished the project!!!! I will post some pictures here, but for the whole step by step check out the Web Site...
http://stratproject.googlepages.com/finishedhighwayonerelic

I got a Special Edition Artist Series John Mayer wiring harness for the guts of this guitar which is the reason for the set screw vintage amp knobs... I didnt know it had set screw stems when I bought the harness... but the guitar sounds incredible with the Texas Special pups.

Here are some pics

Hey man, you did a really good job. I'm glad you mentioned how you tarnished your hardware with the acid fumes, that's a good idea, I might give that a try myself.

Also you were asking whether a neck sanded down to the bare wood would be more likely to warp. That's just total bullsh!t, it's not gonna happen. I wonder who came up with that one, hehe.

I'm glad you guys approve... now I want to do more to the neck... In the meantime, I listed the guitar on eBay... mainly because I am curious how much interest it will generate. I doubt it will hit the reserve but I suppose you never know. If it does it will finance my next project. If anyone else is interested in checking the progress, the auction is here... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=190149407444&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=009

If anyone wants to share a tip on the best way to get the neck to bare wood it would be really helpful.

Thanks!
j

I really just want to know what kind of potential it has on the bidding market. If I can cover my cost and time it will finance my next project... I guess at this point, I just want to get even better at this whole relic thing... I enjoy the work, but it does take quite a bit of time and patience.

I am torn about it though... the thing plays and feels great!!!! If it does sell, I will definitely miss it.

well, i think you had a good idea there, especially with some of the wear patterns, but you might want to try to get some more jagged chips on there. cause it might look fake if everything is sanded out nicely. i say it might look fake, because i havent seen the guitar firsthand, and it probably looks very different up close.
