Hi there,
just bought myself one of those little new tremolo springs that fits in the block. The previous owner either didn't like it or lost it.
My question is, is there any effective way of securing the spring into the block so that it will not fall out when the arm is out?

Could I wrap some insulation tape around the spring or something to keep it in place?

Chris

When new, the guitar comes with a little silver sticker over that hole to keep the spring from falling out. My sticker wore out so I keep a tiny piece of duct tape over the hole so I don`t loose it. That little spring is a spacer for the tremolo arm.

There is a argument for throwing that spring away. It can strip the thread of the block, but strat trems do that overtime anyway when their used regularly.

What i do is put a tiny bit of blu-tack on the end of the spring. It will work loose eventually if you shake the guitar about without the trem installed.

Not sure blu-tack is called that in the usa. Its this stuff

The other one i used to do was wrap a cigarette paper around the spring. It works but the paper gets torn up after a while.

I would make myself a little cap that you can pull or insert in a really easy way to stop the spring from falling, just like a cork on a wine bottle... I would do that but I never take my tremolos off the guitars :)

Niki, your saying the threads in the block stirp from using the tremolo arm ? Is that from screwing them in and out or from the actual use of the arm ?

Hey that's a practical idea Synkronized...i wonder if the 3M earplugs would work. Thanks dude for that idea :D .....i really hate those sticker/masking tape at the trem, after sometime you can see sticky grime over the trem plus its rather troublesome to peel it off every time you wanna stick in the arm as i love my nail short.

Just general wear and tear i guess. The block on my hotrod is going already, i only bought it in may. I'm nowhere near a heavy trem user. Anything past a hank marvin wobble and i go to a kahler'd guitar.

Theres details on how the spring affects the thread of the block/arm on callahams page. It could just be a marketing pitch. Every vintage style trem ive owned has gone the same way though.
Heres charlie chandlers page on them, its taken directly off the callaham site.
