Haven't been here in a while, but thought it would be cool to find out if there are any cool stories out there behind your own guitar families.
I'll post a shot of mine and if there seems to be any interest, will add some info behind the guitars. Here goes, and hope to hear some interesting stuff....Image
The crew is: 2007 Ibanez AS83VLS - RH set up for lefty; 2004 Warmoth Ash Fretless Jazz Bass - LH; 1975 Carlo Robelli Strat RH; 2003 Ibanez SR500 Bass, RH; 2008 Washburn D10SCE LH; My own design and built 1987 LH "angled" guitar; 2001 Squire Pro Tone Strat RH; 1999 Fender American Standard Tele LH; 2002 PRS Santana SE RH; 1993 Fender American Standard Strat w/ white pearl pick guard and cream p/u covers

The Squire; PRS and Ibanez Bass belong to my kids, but i did commandeer the Pro-Tone and have strung it up for lefty play. I had been given lessons when I was 8 as a righty, and the teacher promptly told my parents i should take up another instrument since I was a spaz. At 14 my friend suggested flipping a guitar over (a la Jimi) and I've been playing lefty ever since. Makes it a challange to find nice guitars tho. Oh well, i consider myself a lucky guy anyway.

Hi welcome to the Forum leftyscott....nice interesting collection of guitars there you have!

Now you got to tell us more about that angled guitar...its origins, the hardware, the wood body and neck and the pickup+electronics.

Thanks for the kind words. OK, here's the story...I never thought I'd actually ever own a lefty guitar, and in real life I'm a woodworker/furniture designer. So I had this idea in 1987 that I'd combine my love of making things out of wood and guitars and embark on a career as a guitar designer. More about that delusion in a moment...
This guitar is made from solid rock maple - with the neck also maple with a curly maple fret board and wenge inlays. The bridge is solid brass and is really substantial; the nut is solid brass. The tuners are Bowen Machines and the pick ups are DiMarzios. The fret wire is a light gauge Fender fret material. I set in a 3/8 x 3/4 piece of stainless steel in the neck, but since I didn't make it adjustable, it did bow a little. The guitar sounds like a cross between a strat and a tele, but has some fundemental flaws. If I were to do another I would use what I learned on this but it was cool to make.
So we lived really close to the then home of Guild Guitars in Westerly RI back then and a family friend helped me get connected with the (then) president of Guild. So I go in there with my guitar and little amp and dreams of being the next Les Paul and it was a horrible experience. The man had about 10 of his staff and he starts flipping through a magazine and stops on some Firebird or something, and he goes, it looks like this! But i like the knobs and your gig-bag. You want to sell the knobs and gig bag? His staff was noticibly embarrassed and when he left they were very gracious and the head luthier gave me a fantastic tour and said since that was my first attempt, I should keep building guitars...but frankly, that killed it for me. After they said they only pay about $100 for a design and didn't believe in royalties, despite having a working prototype and blueprints I figured I'd stick to building furniture and playing guitars. Well there you have it...

thanks for the encouragement and yeah, i guess i thought about it, and i guess if i had to pick a dream job it would be to do R&D for Fender, but after half a century no one has yet to drastically improve the strat or tele (IMHO) and other guitar shapes usually look like half baked attempts to do just that.

Awesome story mate- and that is one cool looking guitar!! In a nice dakota red that would be absolutely awesome to say the least- It reminds me of the guitar that Jack White plays.. have you though about trying again? That is a fantastic design, very retro
