I have a Strat with the vintage tremolo. I keep breaking the 4th (D) string right where the string comes up through the bridge. I have had my guitar tech remove the bridge and debur it, but it still happens. It's only the d string, and it always breaks in the same spot. Any suggestions?

That deburring should've worked.

This should solve your problem, find you some old electrical wire and strip off some insulation (use big enough gauge wire so the insulation will fit over the strings), cut some off long enough to go from the inside of the tremolo block to right behind where the string sits on the saddle, about 1 inch should work, although it may depend.

Feed your string through the block, then slide those pieces of insulation on each string. You can do this for as many strings as you want.

I do the first four strings on mine.

Stevie Ray Vaughans tech did this to his guitar, so if it's good enough for him, it's good enough for anybody.

How far are you screwing the trem arm in? When you bend it down, do you ever just let it go, or do you control the movement as it goes back? What size strings are you using? The more info the better.

Hi, I had the same problem, but was breaking not just the same string but others also. Guitar_Hurricane has good advice and he's right about SRV.

What I did is change to Graphite Saddles. I play hard and guess what- I don't break any more strings. Got the info right here at the Forum. Oldguy gave me the suggestion.

It seems to be a common problem. At least that's how I took it when I posted my problem: " Breaking Strings"
