I found these they look very good

http://www.truetemperament.com/site/index.php

Swedish fretwork on warmouth necks according to their Austrailian distributor. Also worth considering is this service/mod available from Andy's on denmark street for uk residents.

Quite drastic but it would be nice to have a go on one.

I think that stuff is rather interesting from a design point of view but I think that practically speaking it would give most folks a lot of problems. I guess if a person grew up with that kind of design and had never played a more traditional fretboard it would probably work well for them but for anyone who's been playing for any period of time it would simply feel really whacked and would interfere more than anything else.

I'm not trying to be rude here or anything at all...just my opinion as always, but to me this really reminds me of when some folks tried to re-invent the computer keyboard. The "QWERTY" style of key placement had been developed umteen million years ago with the advent of the typewritter as a way of keeping the keys from sticking together when someone would type fast. Later when computers started becoming popular and this was certainly no longer an issue, some folks tried to develop keyboards which had a more "natural" and organic key placement. This was all fine and dandy except that most folks who already knew how to type (particularly in regards to secretaries and such) simply couldn't use it! When a person has spent a career or even a lifetime of doing something around a particular "standard", it's -very- difficult to just up and one day do something differently.

I would also add that guitars by the very design and right down to the way most of us tune them, were never designed to be "perfect". Traditional tuning for example ("concert pitch", "440", et al) is by it's very nature a compromise. For those less educated in this area, it was a way to play all the chords of the scale in any key so that they sounded "reasonably" in tune with each other. This is why if you use an open tuning that you are limited to which keys you can actually play in. Of course it should also be said that having a guitar that is perfectly tuned with absolutely perfect intonation (beyond the norm that is)...well...it just has to be said...that's just not rock & roll baby! LOL!!!!!

Again from a design point of view I think this is kind of interesting but I really don't see it ever catching on with any significance. You can only re-invent the wheel so many times before you realize that it still needs to be round.

Just my $.02 worth,
Jim
