when replacing the pick ups, whould I replace the pots as well? what about the capacitor and 5 way switch?

Was wanting to order this tomorrow. Have no knowledge of pots what so ever.
You should be fine. unless you are doing something radical like installing active pickups, then the original electronics will be fine.

I'd hang fire on the pots and cap. They can make a big difference to sound and need to be judged against how the whole guitar sounds. Stick with the originals for now then when your done evaluate what you want more or less of.

Remember, we want lots of before, during and after photos. Time to discover that macro setting on your digital camera...

Good luck! - C

We're watching, we're waiting - show us pictures! Even if it's just the guitar in it's case on the way to the tech, we gotta see something of this Forum Project!

Go to it, Thumbs! :D

Good luck - C

Actually I do have a pic for ya to look at. Now that I've become a lil bit more savvy about the internal workings of guitars I've noticed a few odd things about my MIJ RI take this block for example:

Image

Does that look like your average 1988 standard Japanese block? Also, the tech who will be helping me with the project was looking the guitar over yesterday morning and asked me when I had installed the american pick ups. What?!?!?! I had done no such thing! Now bear in mind I am not the original owner of this piece, but I was told by the OG owner (whom I've always considered trustworthy) that it was all original. So now I'm twice as anxious to get the neck off and the pick guard too.

The cross over of parts between factories is probably normal. I dont think FMIC would let the japanese or mexican plants close because their waiting on a tremblock or pickups from their supplier. Just speculation no conclusive proof for or against.

That makes sense. Needless to say, I was still pleasantly suprised to find so many American parts in my guitar. :)

I really like the contoured heel... much more comfortable than having the corner digging into you palm.
