In light of the reinvigorated friendship between Niki the Brit and I, I must concede his view on the body and contours.

If you are willing to go that deep to restructure the guitar, then you might as well customize the body to fit you properly. Big gut, eh???? KIdding.

However, as an economist, I must suggest that you can buy factory contoured bodies. Also, there are many varieties of strat necks available and they are generally interoperable. The AmDlx Contour Heel is out there already and many bodies are slimmed or whatever. So, I have to ask if it makes sense to distort this body/neck when you can custom build to your specifications using factory issue. At a minimum, you reduce the risk of screwing up a very nice guitar.

LOL nah, the guts not sooo large, but when I get 12 bullets (beers) deep everything starts to swell  I'm not at all opposed to altering the body or neck of this guitar. However; I would not take it upon myself to personally do the work as I lack the skills to do so. It is my desire to build a great custom guitar, not ruin a great guitar.

Great looking guitar!

graphtech string saver chrome saddles, locking tuners, and good pickups. Block the trem if you don't use it. And as far as pickups.... well that's just an abyss of options. I really don't think it needs anything else. Unless you want to get into special wiring.

Sound advice to be sure Jay, and your concern is much appreciated. but For now I'd like to continue on with this experiment. I firmly believe you to be totally correct in your assumption that nobody would "chip in" to replace my guitar should things go horribly wrong, and the fact of the matter is I wouldnt expect nor ask anyone to.

I suspect that for every voice that suggests something that may possibly ruin this project another will speak up to explain why that particular idea wouldnt work. If by chance I'm wrong then I'll have to live with the results. I consider that a small price to pay for the adventure of it.

For a deeper rib cutout/contour look to the 57 body shape.

What about building your own body? Its not easy work but is very rewarding. Possibly the ultimate mod, it puts everything under your control. Neck pitch, cutouts, contours, heel, controls all exactly where and how you want em.

maybe further down the road as my style and skill level of play evolves I would consider that as an option, but for now lets just stick with minor mods to the body in hand.

Ok point taken.
First off try a compensated nut. Its a great mod that really helps the low end of the fretboard play intune. It's possibly the reason i play my knockup partsocaster more than anything else.
