why do guitarists equate good guitar playing with good composition?

I cant think of one band i've heard 3 cds of that hasnt bored me at some point. Hendrix bores me half the time (example 1983) as does knopfler clapton or gibbons, they all release or released ropey stuff. Never mind halen or zep, i didnt get through stairway or eruption before i dismissed them, not that they never released good stuff. If non of their stuff was good it wouldnt of sold. In my opinion the guitar greats do their best work in collaboration with others.

i do agree is a corney song. but i have herd eddie vh
play songs like the rover/rock n roll and others to the note
my friends. with no trouble at all as matter of fact he looked
very bored playing the zepplin songs. page is a horrible player
and he is very overrated as a guitarist.

Oh man, I love that song "Jump" its so much less cornier than say, Stairway to Heaven, or Rock and Roll or perhaps BlackDog hahahaha

Its not the songs that they write, I think its the influence they have. Jimmy influenced a lot of good players- Van Halen influenced bands like WASP didnt they?

I like them both. You have to remember Van Halen had some help and there names are David lee Roth and Sammy Hagar they had some serious Vocals as the front Men to push those songs to the top of the charts. I saw them at MCI and they were not to good then in fact I thought Eddie was drunk and even stoped playing in the middle of a song.
