HA! OK, for no other reason than so that FHopkins can comment on my vast fund of utterly pointless information, here is a picture of Jimmy Page's town house in London:

Image

He's owned it since the early '70s, it is in the glamorous Holland Park part of town, it is called The Tower House, it is a 19th century building with a very famous (amongst architects) neo-medieval interior that Page has had lovingly and expensively restored - and until not so long ago it was also famous that Page had never spent a night there. Apparently he now has done so.

I thought of taking a photo of it for the Forum T-shirt thread, but somehow it felt a little more like invasion of privacy than Gilmour's houseboat (which is opposite a public park)...

Anyhow. It looks a bit like a castle, doesn't it?

You want trivia? You got it!

Cheers - C

Hmm. Well Enfield is way up north. To get there by Underground (subway), about an hour and a half. Something like that. Probably slower by car!

I'm south of the river, about half an hour from the center of town - and guitar shops!

Hey Stratheads-

when I first read the title of this thread, I knew this had to be a joke. Especially after the last load of hoopla over the whole HWY One Strat being better then...whatever...Blah blah Blah- Then I saw it was Big Jay and I knew he was kidding around. It was funny to read how many people got all wound up

Ceri always has some great input...Love the photo of JP's "Townhouse" (And Yes I agree that Jimmy Page is a great session musician- lousy out on the road) I wonder who Jimmy Pages Neighbor is ??? does his dog get out and crap on his lawn???

Calm down Alwaysstrat....we all know you own a half dozen Hwy One's and loads of other guitars from you years out on the road with.......
I for one will never challenge your admiration for the MiM and other off shore Strats- I respect your opinion ...

The Freeze

Common....Always.....Jimmy Page is "a" god.

He was an amazing player, except not live....maybe because of the heroin....but he was an even more impressive song writer.

Even if you dont "like" his styles, you respect the genious, right?

I mean you dont have to prefer classical music to see Mozart as a genious, right?

Or is it a Les Paul thing?

Speaking of Les Pauls and Jimmy Page trivia....he recently designed a 3-humbucker Les Paul for his signature Gibson. If I understand the story correctly, only 100 of these guitars were made. They were all shipped to his studio in his country castle, where his tech staff worked them to his exact specifications. He signed them and the first one off the lot sold for $100k.

I love Strats, but would kill for that guitar.

I have way too many fond memories of destroying my short term memory while listening to Led Zeppelin. Way too many destroys of my term memories Led while to listening.....what?

page was and still is very sloppy.
he's not on the greatness like players like edward van halen or
SRV or jimi hendrix or Eric clapton or jeff beck or david gilmoure
if you want to learn how to play like crap on a consistant bassis then
lisen to page. page is way overrated as a guitarist edward van halen
would destroy page.

Good self editing makes a good songwriter. The ability to know what is surplus to the requirement of a song. Being able to take a passage that you slaved over and shelving it within one song maybe for use on another.

Notice that great songwriters songs often sound uncluttered, but they produce a great number of songs in a short time frame. I think that is down to the self editing ability.

Funny.. it seems Jay has been taking the piss with this thread, I forgive you Jay- but I and im sure others would agree that we dont come here to intentionally wind people up. People ask genuine questions because they may have genuine concerns or may just want information, and you just take the piss out of these genuine people by turning the thread into a slugfest.

..and all this has turned you into a "roadie"- you must spend days on end on this site? you havent been a member for very long

You deserve to be grounded from your non american strat for a month. Naughty, naughty Jay...

Well, as I mentioned, he is not a great live player. Its arguable whether his playing talents really show in his recorded solos of the standard LZ songs.

However, his song writing ability, in my opinion, is amazing. Not only did he write, play and produce some of the most intricate guitar work in rock history, but the variety of music he put out was incomperable, especially compared to Eddie Van Halen.

Not asking you to like him, but cant you see some value in the ability to write songs like The Battle of Evermore, the Rain Song, Rock n Roll and others?

Curious to hear what you think makes a great musician/player/song writer.

31 years ago edward van halen changed the whole
guitar playing world forever, the way we play/sound
he has taken the guitar and guitarist places were page/hendrix
and a few others only dreamed of. no sir page is not even close
to edwards van halen's genius guitar playing. feel/style/tone/playability
eddie vh has and does it all. page couldnt change eddie vh's strings.
plus alot of zepplin songs are corney.
