Does anybody have a 2006 American Series Strat 60th Anniversary? What do you think of them? I know someone who is selling one, who's had it for about 2 years. How much do you think it's worth for me to buy it used? How much were they when they first came out?
How's the tone, and how does it compare to the new 2008 American Standard Strat? Is it just as good as the new American Standard?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to learn as much about the guitar before I make a purchase.

Thanks

A 2006 American Stratocaster (that is a 60th anniversary as you can see by the badge on the back of the headstock) neither has Tex mix pickups nor 57/62' pickups. The Mexican 2006 Anniversary model Stratocaster has cheaper pickups but they are not American made and that is what the OP was inquiring to.

The msrp was around $1,000.00
They go for $600.00 to $900.00 today depending on condition.

actually if you do a search for the American 60th it did come with 57/62 pickups as well as a vintage style case with gray tweed(you could still get the normal american strat too). The mexican version came in blizzard pearl with tex mex pickups.

Your info is bad.

A 2006 American Stratocaster does not have 57'62 pickups. All 2006 Stats have the 60th emblem on the back of the headstock.
I have one, I know they are not 57/62's. I will post pictures of the pickups if you must see. 57/62' pickups have beveled edges on the posts. American Stratocaster (standard) pickups have staggered cut poles on the pickups.

I have an American 60th Anniversary guitar, and it did come with the 57/62 pickups. However I swapped them out for VN pups. Anyway, the guitar is amazing. I love the feel of the neck, the looks, and the tone is amazing as well. The case is beautiful, as is the whole guitar. Better than an American Standard IMHO.

In my humble, uneducated opinion, you should compare that 60th Anniversary Edition to other guitars of that years....like the non-60th Anniversary editions.

Maybe its just me....but I think there are way too many Fender Anniversary Edition guitars out there. My point is that some people will automatically assume that because its an Anniversary Edition, that its naturally worth more or will hold its value. This is potentially a big mistake, especially since Fender celebrates so many anniversaries by selling guitars. Supply and demand normally determins value, except that well thought out marketing campaigns and gimmics cause some people to pay too much.

Personally, I dont see value in the "Anniversary" part of the guitar. I only see value in the guitars playability, tonal qualities, and construction quality. Aesthetics make a small difference and rarity doesnt impact value until long in the future.

So, if you compare the price of that guitar with other guitars with identical components, you might find that the implied value of the Anniversary aspect is too expensive or maybe non-existant. Who knows?, but at least you will know exactly what you are buying and why.

By large I agree with what you said. Good point!

OK

I got out my old 2006 front line catalog and found that there was a "special" model that came with a special emblem on the headstock and back plate in addition to the emblem that all 2006 products got that year and it did in fact have vintage reissue pickups which I would assume are the 57/62' pickups that were mentioned earlier.

I was stating that all Strats that year were technically 60th anniversary models and besides the MIM and the "special special" models they had stock normal pickups.

Hello Pjrocks,

I own the 60th "commemorative" anniversary.
It has a tiny genuine imitation diamond embedded
in the headstock and wears 57/62 pickups.
here is the headstock, '62 hotrod is the upper headstock.

Cheers.

I would assume when someone is talking about a 60th anniversary model that they are talking about the commemerative model and not the regular one because there is nothing that sets them apart from the other stock strats other than the serial number.
