They will drop pretty quickly for a blues harp player, though, so maybe you could consider adding that to your repertoire..

I would think that these would do well in a dorm room without disturbing the neighbors. You just need a good pair of headphones. If you decide to bother the neighbors, the Crate you have will do nicely.

those amplugs look pretty cool! which one would be better for Clapton-style blues? AC30 or Classic Rock?
is there, by any chance, a way to use a pedal on that? xD
also, does anyone know if the champ 600 has a headphone jack or not?

I think it could be possible to use a pedal with those, just instead of pluging it to your guitar you can plug it to the pedals out which you can strap to your belt lol

the Vox Amplugs are good, but they're not very robust...I think you'd be able to add an effects pedal (or two), but you'd have to make sure you didn't step on the amplug by accident!

I bought the AC30 one, which is not too far removed from the amp it emulates. I don't have any effects pedals, so I'd have to say that on its own it's a bit of a dry sound to have right in your ears for long periods. There's a "lead" model with more gain and a little delay that I might look out for -- they're cheap enough that you could buy a couple of different models and keep them in your guitar case.

Otherwise, what about those Pod things? They seem pretty popular, but I've not had any experience with them. I just wanted the cheapest possible thing for a beach holiday where I couldn't take an amp.

NO!!! I dont recommend the heavy metal SOLO.

I said "FACE MELTING POWER CHORDS"!!!!!

With this technique, you simply blow the panties right off!!!

Actually, I recommend a wheepy, soft, emotional, depressing folk song on an accoustic....couple candles.....a little booze....and a tear falling on the guitar as you rest your chin on the guitar body....

You have to appeal to their maternal instincts....

it's kinda funny how "what amp is suitable for dorm room use" topic turned into "how to get laid, using guitars"

btw, no one answered this question: does Fender Champ 600 have a headphone jack? xD and how's the Roland cube for blues?

In addition to my Fender tube amp I have a Roland 15w cube. Its probably ideal for a dorm room. Very versitile and it has a headphoine jack which may be critical. It also can be used with pedals. I play mostly bliues and blues based rock, and while I certainly prefer the tube amp, the Roland is good for what it is.

As to what it takes to get laid in college these days, well, its been so long since I was in college I doubt could say anything usefull.

I have a Roland cube, and find that it is really a nice little box. The effects and amp modeling are pretty good, it has a headphone jack (which shuts off the speaker when engaged) runs on both ac and batteries. Battery life is pretty good, too.

This and some ipod ear buds will keep the R.A. away from your dorm room!

Roland Micro Cube or a Vov DA5 I have played a DA5 before it does work nice and can still get loud when you want it to for a little amp.
