Hey All,

My SRV Strat (Circa 1992) arrived today and she is absolutely beautiful!! Talk about untouched. So much so that the plastic cover on the clasps of the case is still there. Check out the pics.

I have to decide now to play her, or keep her for sentimental value! :(

Lads...

Guess What....

I played her! She feels like a comfy old shoe. So comfy it aint funny! I have a mate who reckons he hated it. Said it was too uncomfortable to play. Well - Suck eggs to him... because this thing is just fantastic.

She sounds beautiful too - although needs some new strings. I think they too are from 1992!!

One question though - and I have no reason to doubt the collector whom I bought it from, but would there be any way of confirming that the pickups are the originals?

Cheers
Mongrel

Hi AusMongrel: well, you could take a look at the solder joints and see if they appear to have been redone or not. That's a "vintage guitar expert" type of thing - other people here better able to talk about it than me...

Cheers - C

Pickups will have cloth covered wires and Custom Shop stickers on the back. If the previous owner didn't take the plastic off of his case I doubt that he would have bothered to play around with the pickups though!

as Ceri said checking the solder joints is the best way to tell. Fender's soldering is super neat, even on squires. It looks like a machine made pcb solder joint. Anything less i'd tell the seller, "you swapped the pickups out!" and stand my ground. Its ultimately your word against his though. Unless you find some SRV pickups (whatever model they happen to be) strip them and yours and compare the 2 sets.

Texas Specials in the SRV, is that right?

Like cwpainter says, someone who doesn't even take the plastic off the case locks ain't likely to be messing with the innards - specially if the strings look old. It would be a kind of bizarre con to run at this level of the market...

Yes, Texas Specials were developed for the SRV Strat. I hesitate to bring it up because there is much controversy surrounding the development and placement of these pickups in his guitar.

That's a good point about the solder joints too- there will definitely be evidence of someone tinkering around in there.
