OK I'll fes up - with OP I originally I was going to fuss. I was reading a retailers catalog and realized that the American standard strat does not come with a hardshell case but rather a gig bag. What's up with that? I want a real case, not a Sears case! This seem to me to be Fender guitar devolution. Why must they mess with a goo thing?

New American standard Stratocasters do come with a hard shell case made by SKB. They do not come with gig bags. Either the sellers ad you were reading is shady, he was taking you for a ride, or you are misinformed.

OK - I thought I had read that the new cases were really cool with stacking capability and some other new features. I guess the (major) reseller just got it wrong or is ripping it's customer base for the cost of a case. I'll give them a call and see how it goes. I'll ask them for an upgrade to the case!

UPDATE: Well I wasn't crazy. On page 80 of the current AMS mail order catalog, the Fender American standard is shown for $999.95 with a deluxe gig bag. I called and they said that you can't upgrade the gig bag to a hardshell case and that you would just have to buy a case. Sounds somewhat shady to me???? 8)

I used to give this company a good deal of my business. After this experience, I shall look elsewhere.

Hello Stratoholic,

Thanks for sharing that with us.
I can't imagine that Fender Musical Inst.
would be happy about that.
I doubt I'll purchase anything from that outfit.

Cheers.

From the AMS website -- Found this line in the product description for a Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Case Maple Fingerboard, 3-Color Sunburst Item #: FEN 110402 700

"And last but not least, Fender has reconnected with SKB to give you a stronger sturdier molded case."

No mention of a gig bag at all.

Yep........something shady going on here. American Standards come with a hardshell case. It's the MIM standards that come with a gig bag.

Yeah, I mean goo is already pretty messy, so why mess with it more?

OK that joke was really bad but I spent the 30sec to type it so it gets posted anyway.
