2 suggestions
1. fender vintage noiseless. I have a set in one of mine. Get that same Fender tone not too hot and they still quack... PS comes with replacement tone pots
2. Dimarzio makes a loaded pick guard comes with an area 58 neck area 67 in the middle, and a 61 in the bridge. Very quiet and very vintage fender tone...

You'll spend a little more for the Dimarzio but its a quick replacement compared to all the soldering you have to do with the Fender vintage. :)

Vintage Noiseless may not be the best way to go for blues tone if you want it fat and warm. I have Vintage Noiseless pups on my MIM strat, and it has a more chimey, classic strat tone. If that's what you're after, they're great. And I like them very much. I'd also suggest you look in the Hot Noiseless pickups too. Just search for "Fender Vintage Noiseless" and "Fender Hot Noiseless" on youtube and watch the videos people post to hear what they sound like.

Go for Seymour Duncan SSL-7 for the neck and middle and the SSL-3 for the bridge positiion. Unmatched tone.

vintage noiseless have a very hifi tone that doesnt warm up much without a load of mids stuck ontop. Hot noiseless sound quite aggressive, listen to any modern jeff beck. You will hear theres a tone underlying Jeffs which he controls and utilizes perfectly. I couldnt work em like him, if you could their a good option if not i'd avoid em.

Example
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=toMTAHsz26I&feature=related

Notice he uses his thumb side. It softens the sound quite a bit. JB is noted for not using much in the way of effects. He's known for rocking up at the studio with a guitar and boss OD pedal and saying 'get me a marshall, any type will do'.

I use VN's and SCN's i think the SCN's provide a better all round tone though they are not as clear. A payoff i'm quite happy to make for versatility.

Some time back i played a friends home built strat with kinman mk2's fitted. That was a great experience, arguably better than any of the fender options. I'm just too tight to shell out £200+ for pickups.

It is my opinion that the best noiseless pickup Fender makes is the Samarium Cobalt Noiseless. Great vintage vibe without the noise.

The way you pick, the length of your bends, the speed of your vibrato, and the amp you play through all contribute more to your "bluesiness" than your pickups do. Vintage Noiseless pickups sound good, as do most other pickups, and to say they need some kind of equalization before they can play the blues is hilarious.

I mean, which "blues tone" are you talking about? BB King's Vari-tone Gibson into those solid-state Lab amps? Gatemouth's Firebird? Or Johnny Winter's Firebird? Do you mean SRV's faux-blooze multi-amp overdrive? Or Eric Gale's cool, hollow-body tone? Or Buddy Guy's ice-pick Strat?

If you're looking for the blues in the accessory counter of your local guitar store, you are looking in the wrong place.

i have a 08 MIA strat that i just put Lace Hot Golds in and it blows away the old stock pups and the VN's that i had i there.. great for blues, nice and thick but still retains that strat character..

Typically, people who get SCNs can not shut up about how great they are. There are a TON of people who really dig these pickups, even over the Vinatge Noiseless. I am not an expert telling you which I recommend. I am just citing my experience from talking with those that got them. Anyway, if I was looking for noiseless, these would be the first for me to check out.

about the best comparison of actual guitars with scn's and VN's fitted would be the american deluxe for scn's and the deluxe players strat. If i were you i'd take someone to the shop with me to strike the open strings of each guitar with its settings the same for each guitar (preferably all set to mid point on a amp you know i.e the same as yours). Dont get the store assistant to play the guitars for you. He will think if he impresses you then you may buy. His aim will be to sell the more expensive guitar and he could reflect this in his playing.[/i]

I do too, but they aren't noiseless.
