While I really like the look and feel of my new 2008 American Standard Ash Strat, I'm not sure I like the pickups all that much. Compared with my other Strat which I replaced the neck and mid with Texas Specials, the new Strat sounds somewhat "thin" by comparison. Don't get me wrong, it still sounds good, as a Strat should. I just think I need it to be a little fatter.

Are you wanting that "Strat" sound or something a little different. If you want that "Strat" sound, you already have it. I like the sound of the following pups in no particular order:

1. Dimarzio
2. Lace
3. EMG's

All of these are nice pups and depends if you like single coils or humbuckers.

I put an SD Lil '59 in the bridge and kept the stock pickups in the middle and neck. I really love it.

How well does the lil 59 balance with the stock pickups? Is it alot louder?

I would try to put some bigger strings on it first .I use 10s on mine and they fatten the sound quite a bit.

The first thing I did was change the strings to D'Addario super XL's (10 to 46) and that did fatten it up somewhat. What I might do, is switch out the two Texas Special PU's I put in my Squier a while back.

I installed a DG-20 on my 2007 American strat...the EMG Gilmour setup and I personaly think it's a better setup and tone than the original pups that were on it
