A couple of things...

1) A MIM "standard" that came with "stock Tex Mex pups". I thought the only MIM to come with Tex Mex was the Jimmy Vaughn signature. Something seems wrong there...

2) There is a lot of this "MIMs are better since 2006" stuff. In '06, they added enhancements to the MIM Std (larger trem block, fully shielded, med-jumbo frets, and a gig bag). The pre '06 guitars are ... IMO ... just as good quality, and you can easily and cheaply get the larger tremblock and shielding for any pre-06. I know my modified '04 kills, and is a very well-built guitar with a nice neck and fretwork. I just wanted to clear that up.

3) I put Tex Mex pups in my '04. I think they are great.

Thanks, after reading this and if I ever am lookingfor a MIM which someday I probably will, I will definitly go fr a 06 plus as the upgrades seem worth it.

The seller did say the discoloration is just the result of poor lighting. and the email response I posted above was the sellars reaction to an offer of $350. not all that suprising after learning it retailed for $700 >.< yet again my local guitar dealer let me down.

Hey don't give up yet! The ebay listing has no reserve. That means that what ever the seller ends up with as the highest bid, he has to take. Just make a bid at the amount you are willing to pay and see how it goes. You never know, you might end up getting it for $350 or even less.

Also, just because it sold for $700 new doesn't mean the seller will get anywhere near that now. You can get a pretty nice new strat for $700.

Use the auto bid function. Put in the maximum you would pay for the guitar e.g $350. The site will automaticaly see that your the highest bidder up to that price. The only thing wrong with this system is that sellers get their mates to bid therefore increasing your bid. It can backfire on them though, when their mate wins a guitar he doesnt want, ebay take a percentage of the sale price.

you'd never believe the weeks of earbending off the missus i've had to endure to be allowed to buy myself that guitar.

All the best with your current persuit mate, trust me i play my mim more than anything else, when you get a good one they are great.

Flip - for real, Niki? Did you just buy that? Man...!

Interested to see how long it lasts before you start modding it. Does it have a mid-boost...?

no it comes with deluxe s1 switching though, the only improvement i could think of would be to the trem. It seems to be a dead point on the guitar. Maybe im just too used to the wild zing of vintage trems. I spent the morning treating the board with lem oil and beeswax, it seems to have improved no end. Bargain price too, not much more than a deluxe. Incidentaly i found this guitar through ebay and approached the seller as i described earlier in this thread.

Anyway i'm off for a bit more 'down to the waterline'.

Oh the nostalgia of it! My teenage years distilled into a song...

There isn't really an emoticon for a wistfully happy smile, is there?

Even better: http://cgi.ebay.com/FENDER-STRATOCASTER ... 240%3A1318

And this guitar is 15 minutes down the road. :D Although there is really nothing to do to it. :?

That's a stellar guitar. Yeah, get that one. Although, you can be sure the price will be skyrocketing upward shortly. The eBay public is too smart to let a mint MIA Dlx w/ case go for anything around $400.
