I'm a sucker for Strat, now I'm playing a Squier Strat.

Recently, I am gonna buy a secondhand Strat. Now there are two Strats for me to choose, 010-7402 and 011-0402.

The 7402 was bought in 2001 and the 0402 was bought half a year ago.

I know they are both American standard and 0402 is the new AS, then what kind of differences are there between a 7402 and a 0402?

The 7402 is for $880 and 0402 is $980,

which do you think is a better choice?

Hello Hound,

Firstly welcome to the Forums.

Well you have given us little information
Neither seem to be a good deal.
Just go buy a new one and you'll be
protected with a factory warranty.

Photos and condition really should have
been added for our consideration.

Cheers.

agreed those are essentially full price, you would be better off buying new.

Hi Hound,

see the specs for the new AS, check what's new on this model. That will be main diff between old and new model. If you have possibility to check both before buying, do that and find out wich guitar feels better for you.

Check also some online guitare stores for street prices. Maybe you will have the chance to buy a new guitar to the prices you wrote or better.

Cheers

Thank you, Mr.Bill.

I'm a guy in China.

In China, a new Fender is quite expensive, at least to me,

A new 0402 costs over $1200 here while my salary is only about $1000 per month, so a secondhand guitar is not a bad idea.

here are links(I dont know how to upload pics) of the Strats I'm considering.

It still seems really close to the full price, I think the advice still stands, depending on what warranty protection is like in China. I'll admit I have no idea what your rights are as far as consumer items go in China.

the musical instrument market is far not mature in China. Fake things are all round. Every dealer says he is the ONLY agent of sth. And the warranty protection totally depends on the quality of the dealers

I am living in a small town of East China, and those real Fenders and Gibsons are only available in big cities like Beijing, Shanghai. Here in my town, If I wanna buy a new one here in my town, , I have to order one from a local dealer and then wait for quite a long time to get it, so I still cannot try it before I make the decision

Hello Hound,

I see now Geography
has a major impact on your decision.

I would buy the 0402.

The new AS has a better fit and finish
& vintage style saddles on the bridge.

Best of luck on your decision.

Cheers.
