I recently purchased what I believe to be an early 90's 62 reissue strat MIJ. The serial number on the butt of the neck when I took it off is M00529438. Can someone please help me know what this serial # means? Thanks!!

Hi, and welcome to the forum....
Is that serial number located in the "Made in Japan" or "Crafted in Japan" logo?? or it is underneath the neck bottom ?? if so.... do you see anywhere in the neck end, or in the headstock, a serial number?

It should say Made In Japan they did not start using Crafted in Japan until 1997 it could be either for that year but all say Crafted after then. A picture would help. Also if you had the neck off then it may have seen where its marked in the neck pocket with the model number.

cvilleira is right..... the serial number is located at the heel of the neck(you don't need to take off the neck from the body)

The number is underneath the neck at the bottom. It looks like a number has been scratched off at the top of the headstock. I havent seen anywhere that says MIJ or crafted in japan but my local guitar tech says that the pots are dated 90. The best I came up with on this site was that MIJ had a M+6digits serial but someone told me that only Mexican guitars had M serial numbers.

Hi telebth. Uh-oh: soon as you hear of numbers being scratched off you've got to wonder what is being hidden.

Only way we're gonna get further with this is if we can look at pictures. We need decent, detailed, focused closeups of the front and back of the headstock, the inside of the neck pocket, the butt end of the neck heel and the back/underside of the neck heel too, please.

Then there's a chance we can help.

Cheers - C

did you buy it used? Scratched off serial numbers can mean that the guitar was stolen at some point.

Well it sounds like you dont have a serial number on the guitar. Also they did use a M+ six digits for Made in Japan 92-93 guitars which would be down on the neck under where it says Made In Japan and the numbers will be lighter. In the neck pocket I think most REI's have there model numbers on the body and the neck will have a part number on the under side or on the butt.
