Humidity affects all guitars... acoustics guitars much more than electric ... and any guitar would benefit from a controled humidity environment, or so goes the maxim.

has anybody tried in case humidifiers on electric guitars ? does it make a difference ... ?

yes, whether in Cairo or in the Washington DC area relative humidity can be more than 80% in summer... in winter it can be below 30% in both cases , even worse in Cairo (18%).

So whats the perfect humidity percentage? How do i measure and achive it? Perfect temperature lies at around 21/22c.

We keep our Carrier Home Humidity control set at 38% They tell us 35 to 45 is best for human comfort.

I've noted that at about the 40% mark, my guitars stay in tune, don't buzz, etc... as well do I :D

Actually I'm more comfortable when RH is between 45-55%

Here is a good article on the effect of Humidity on Acoustic Guitars http://www.larrivee.com/5_features/educ ... essay.html

I always like to keep humidity around my acoustics above 45% and below 60%
Cheers

I keep it 55%, my sinuses and guitars seem to like it that way and it's otherwise pretty comfortable. I think the key for me is probably just keeping it a constant percentage instead of huge swings which can harm a guitar especially an acoustic.

I think most mfgrs recommend 40-50 % relative humidity at ~ 70F. I weighed the options and bought a small home humidifier from Honeywell for ~ $120. Too many guitars to humid each case, this way the whole house is comfortable.

That is an important point ... the in box humidifiers humidify the sound box, but all other parts of the guitar have to be exposed to benign humidity as well .. I use a domestic humidifier too.

Sometimes I even use a desiccant to remove extra humidity .

But is all that relevant in solid body guitars? Thats my question.

Cheers

Yes it is relevant. But it is certainly not as critical as it is with acoustics.
Obviously if you live somewhere extremely humid, or extremely arid you need to pay closer attention.

Where I live the humidity changes quite a bit between winter and the other seasons, so i usually make a couple of adjustments a year.

As you can see in the "wall hanger" thread, I keep my guitars out of cases and hanging on the wall. I humidify the whole room to 48%, and try to maintain the temperature at 70 F.

Bionaire makes a nice cool mist humidifier that works like a champ and does not need alot of maintenance. Alos, Once the room is established at 48-50% humidity, it is pretty easy to maintain. When I started, I must have put a few gallons through the humidifier pretty quickly till the walls, floor and ceiling absorbed what they needed to allow the room to be at 50% (ish) I use my Takamine as evidence that things are happy and healthy, as it maintains the same convex shapes to the front and back that it came with. Acoustics will flatten out as they dehumidify. Also no sharp fret ends due to fingerboards drying out.
