Is there an advantage/disadvantage to hanging a guitar from the neck on the wall?

I would have to think that the weight of the body would pull over time on the neck.. (Gravity at work..)

I think it looks cool to have one or two hanging on the wall but before I hang my good hard earned cash I want to make sure I am not causing long term damage to the guitar...

At present I keep mine on a stand and when I am not playing in the case...

Thank you in advance!!!

The only guitar i dont hang lives in its case. My MIM has been hung for 14 years and suffered no adverse effects. Theres two things i'd advise though.
Make sure the hanger is fixed to a stud or block wall. (with stud wallstap the wall at various points along a 600mm horizontal span. you will hear a dead sound that indicates a stud. As opposed to a hollow sound produced by tapping a cavity).
2 put some foam on the wall where the guitar body could collide with it.

If you think about it hanging guitars or storing them 'face in' counteracts stress given by the strings on the neck joint.

I either hang mine on the wall or they go into a case. I used to leave mine out on the floor on a stand, but a little accident and a broken guitar neck put that to an end.

Synkronized,

Is that a Floyd Rose Guitar I see hanging there. How do you like it? Nice?

I kkep em hanging on the wall. Hercules Hangers with the autograb feature are great, as my grandkids cant pull one off the wall, and I do live in earthquake counrty.

Also notice the diverter for the ceiling register. DO not want that air blowing directly on the guitars.

My local music store has very expensive guitars hanging from wall hangers. They can`t be bad for the guitar or the store wouldn`t use them.

I have mine hung on the wall or in a rack. just make sure you don't hang them over a heat source (heater vent or baseboard).

One thing to note for hangers, as well as stands. If you have a classic guitar, or one of the newer ones finished with Nitrocellulose, rather than polyurethane, you need to find a hanger/stand that is safe for that finish. Most of the standard hangers and/or stands use rubber that reacts with the nitro and you can end up with bald spots. Some of the Hercules ones, as mentioned above are safe. Not sure what else is, those are what i use too.

Hangers are the best place for your guitars. Stands are accidents waiting to happen.

I have a quick question myself regarding hangers. If you have your guitars hanging from the wall all the time, wouldn't the strings go dead quicker then if it were in a case?

I am a big advocate of the advantages of hanging guitars. It definitely helps keep necks straight.
