If you have the right tools to work on the nut and you have steady hands there should be no problem :) , I did install a graphtech nut on my MIM a while ago and the result was fairly nice, they are great nuts it improved my guitar a lot which had an artificial bone nut originally installed.... but also I bought the graphtech nut that had already slots from factory so I didnt do that.... I recommend you to get the special set of files from Stew and mac those would work great for you and the filing job... :)
Here is my MIM axe by the way with the graphtech nut I installed

A few :!: Make sure you dont remove the finish as the nut pops away I have seen people pull the finish on the side of the guitar off near the nut. I will score that area with a point of a razor.

I used to do that when I was setting up guitars in the music shop I used to work at during school holidays- A razor line will eliminate the finish shearing off more than it should- but seriously.. Go to a good music shop and they will recommend someone for you- dont do a DIY mistake..

Nuts should either be done by a local music store- or a surgeon :P
