Hello all,

I'm sure this has been talked about, but I tried searching and cant find what I'm looking for.

What is the favorite to clean and dress rosewood with? I know the guitar stores sell 3oz bottles of stuff for $15 bucks, but there has to be something "over the counter" so to speak.... someone once told me to use lemon oil... is that good? Also, I'm not against getting something made especially for guitars, so let me know about that as well.

As usual, thanks for all the info I get from this board! It is one of the best I've been on!

D'Addario sells lemon oil in a small bottle for less than $5. Put on a little bit, let it soak in a tad, then wipe off excess. I just did it two nights ago with pleasing results.

I use "Gerlitz Guitar Honey" runs about $6.00-7.00. One bottle lasts a long time.

the fretboard can be cleaned with nail polish, or rubbing alcohol then immediately remoisturize it with lemon oil which can be bought at any grocery store next to the furniture polish. The dunlop stuff is just lemon oil, just charge more for the name on the bottle.

If it is mildly gunked up, Lemon oil and a soft cloth do wonders. If it is in worse shape, a quick wipe down with naptha, a little elbow grease follwed by lemon oil works wonders.

I use Ernie Ball wonder wipes fretboard conditioner. It works really well and is convenient.

After each use I use a dry, soft cloth and wipe down the whole guitar. I also wipe the strings as well.

When I change strings I use lemmon oil on my Rosewood fretboard and work it in well. Also if I notice heavy build up I'll even use a q-tip by the frets to get the gunk off. Light coat of oil on the tremelo, tuning posts, and string trees. Lastly a little graphite on the nut and it is ready until the next string change.

Actually the Lemon Oil you see for guitars is mineral oil, with some lemon scent added. I do use it, and the stuff for guitars works better. And you don't have to spend a lot--since you don't need to use much. I've got a small bottle I've had for years--although the brand is no longer around it seems--Tres Hombres.
