I'm glad you said something yesterday Ceri. It was me that should have walked away! It's advice that I have given before and did not follow. I see no harm in entering a situation like yesterday and changing the subject or trying to calm things down with out taking sides or running to Brad! My opinion only!

Yeah, but it was fairly obvious I was taking sides. Been kicking myself for it after. Not clever.

People often mention the name of Forum user highwayoneplayer on this subject. Strange thing, that fella was always scrupulously polite to me, don't know why. I'd have a nice little chat with him, then run over to the Lounge and find him having a screaming match with someone else. Then he'd come back and carry on gossiping sweetly with me. Very odd.

Incidentally, I'm not aware that he was ever banned. I think he just stormed off one day. Could be wrong, though...

Cheers - C

Ceri, you never saw highwayones last post and Brads reply to him. Look it up if you feel like it sometimes. Some of the phrasing was eerily similar.

That always puzzled me to

Ever hear that old saying ?...Its better to keep your mouth shut and let people think your stupid, then to open it and remove the doubt.
Sometimes that applies here but I also think a lot of members are young kids and they have no clue what to ask. They just want " picks " next to their name.

You may have hit on the right idea JPD. Instead of picks the forum could just use the joined on date. That way it would stop people from posting just to earn picks! That date will tell you who has been here(how long) and can't be strived for. Something like a credit card says " member since". That would stop multiple posting and posting just to earn picks but you could still tell long term good standing members!

Thats a good idea, your starting date is a good indication of how long a member is around. Random posting just floods the forum. Most questions are legitimate, but I`ve seen numerous threads on.." Post a Pic of your Strat " I`m even surprised the forum itself can handle all the pictures.

You're a smart man JPD! We don't even need the description below our names such as roadie etc. because it's not real and not of our choosing. I've been accused of being a pro. and I'm far from that!

FH.....I learned how to play at 10 years old, I`m 60 now. I put the guitar down for more years than I played. Had I stuck with it I would have been that " pro " but sometimes things happen and we change our course. I think the main thing is to use our talent the best way we can. Even if its just for our own enjoyment. I don`t know your age, but my best advice is to stick with it. I was retired from a job related injury and that pushed me back to playing to pass my time. I`m happy to have the guitar to help keep my sanity.

Ceri, your right as always. Stepping in to calm situations is a very different suggestion to what i had imagined.
As for highway one player my experiences are much the same as yours, he was always polite to me. He did go on about the highway1 guitar at every available opportunity, gave some quite elloquent discorses on its merits. I never read him blowing his top at someone, then one day theres this thread of him acting like a 4 year old on pcp. In truth i miss him a bit. Needless to say i was quite a new user when he went ape. I could well of been in his line of fire at a future date. I can be quite thoughtless myself at times. Were all here because we love our instruments, we should try and remember when making comments were talking of something somebody loves.

Back to the OP.
I think instructions on how to post pictures should be sticky. Its gotta be in the top 5 of questions asked on the forum.

Anyway i'm off to give my tele a backrub.

JPD, I'm almost a mirror image of you! Even the injury and almost the age part. I understand you man! 8)

I can see how someone fresh to the range might be bewildered by all the models and options. Of course, they can click the specs button on each one and get a decent list of the features. And yet it is not unreasonable to need some guidance as to what different pickups, bridges, neck designs and such actually mean. Darned sure I had no idea whether a biflex trussrod (for instance) was something I vitally required or not, first time I came across it!

One of the most important functions of this Forum is that beginners can get questions answered without being talked down to.

And yet. The X versus Y threads do seem to be the ones where fights have been breaking out recently, don't they? Big shame when that's the first thing a newcomer finds on this Forum.

I used to silently move on when trouble broke out, so's not to fuel it. But recently I've been wondering whether that's good enough. Perhaps the regulars need to weigh in sometimes and try to calm things down - if we can find how to do it without sounding like someone's bossy uncle! Don't think I've been very good at that, I'm afraid...

Guess this Forum is only what we make of it. It's up to us...

Cheers - C

+1 Ceri

Let people ask .. lets be nice... and lets search the forum before we ask ... we'll be asking better questions...
