Hey all,

I personally think that there should be a sticky on questions with subjective answers. ie. "Which is better.... blank or blank? or Should I buy a blank or a blank? The answer is very simple.... GO PLAY IT AND DETERMINE FOR YOURSELF. lol.

Now if you need to know the differences between two types of guitars, thats another question (go to products page and read the differences). It just seems to me when people post questions, it should be a question that someone here on the forum can answer or at least lead you in the right direction. ie. Q"What's this buzzing noise?" A"Check your string height".

Seems recently that there are a number of flamers who like to start fights when there really is no winner. There should be a fight thread where people can go argue with one another. I caught myself in this situation where I gave advice to someone and another poster said to do the opposite of my advice... thats fine just leave it at that. The one who asked the question is probably long gone due to intimadation.

Very simple.... No replies to subjective questions, because i could give you a lineup full of reasons why my girlfriends squier bullet strat is better than my american deluxe.

Happy Posting!!!
rob

Maybe a "sticky" to remind people to use the search feature before posting :?:

I can see how someone fresh to the range might be bewildered by all the models and options. Of course, they can click the specs button on each one and get a decent list of the features. And yet it is not unreasonable to need some guidance as to what different pickups, bridges, neck designs and such actually mean. Darned sure I had no idea whether a biflex trussrod (for instance) was something I vitally required or not, first time I came across it!

One of the most important functions of this Forum is that beginners can get questions answered without being talked down to.

And yet. The X versus Y threads do seem to be the ones where fights have been breaking out recently, don't they? Big shame when that's the first thing a newcomer finds on this Forum.

I used to silently move on when trouble broke out, so's not to fuel it. But recently I've been wondering whether that's good enough. Perhaps the regulars need to weigh in sometimes and try to calm things down - if we can find how to do it without sounding like someone's bossy uncle! Don't think I've been very good at that, I'm afraid...

Guess this Forum is only what we make of it. It's up to us...

Cheers - C

I do think throwing weight could be a bit overboard mate. Like you said 'its up to us'. I think a strong stance of intollerance and a use of the report button is more the answer. Tell any bully his aggresive posts arent welcome and leave it up to Brad to sort.

It's just a dumb question in the first place: A or B. Which is better? :)

For who?
On what budget?
For what style?
In what finish?

There is never any one thing that is better, across the board, for every single person, so it's an ignorant question to ask.

The majority would agree that MIA Deluxe is "better" in almost every way than a Squier.

But, which is "better" for a young person, just starting out, not much money, doesn't want anything too nice since they don't know how long they'll play?

Can anyone now say that the MIA Deluxe is a "better" choice for that particular person?

No, no: not throwing weight about (got none to throw). Weighing in - and I should have said stepping in. And only if we can think of something to say that will calm things down rather than fire them up.

I definitely should have stayed out of that one yesterday, for instance. But...

You're right: mention it to Brad and move on is much the better course.

Just feels a bit like telling teacher though... :?

Cheers - C

I'm glad you said something yesterday Ceri. It was me that should have walked away! It's advice that I have given before and did not follow. I see no harm in entering a situation like yesterday and changing the subject or trying to calm things down with out taking sides or running to Brad! My opinion only!

It's funny how a day is all it takes to cool the whole board down.

Yeah, but it was fairly obvious I was taking sides. Been kicking myself for it after. Not clever.

People often mention the name of Forum user highwayoneplayer on this subject. Strange thing, that fella was always scrupulously polite to me, don't know why. I'd have a nice little chat with him, then run over to the Lounge and find him having a screaming match with someone else. Then he'd come back and carry on gossiping sweetly with me. Very odd.

Incidentally, I'm not aware that he was ever banned. I think he just stormed off one day. Could be wrong, though...

Cheers - C

Ceri, you never saw highwayones last post and Brads reply to him. Look it up if you feel like it sometimes. Some of the phrasing was eerily similar.

No, I know that thread. I was quietly watching it at the time in amazement - though I came too late to witness the "numerous obscenities" Brad refered to.

Incidentally, I was impressed with the level-headed things Forum member Shreddin wrote on that thread. That's a good example of someone stepping in calmly and trying to say some sensible stuff to cool the situation down. I think Mr highwayoneplayer had departed by then or couldn't take in what was being said to him, but it was nice to see.

Easy to find that thread, for anyone with a morbid fascination for that kind of thing...

Cheers - C
