:D Tactless of me to mention it, do you think?

On the whole, not a story that reflects well upon us. And yet Americans were very nice to Charles Dickens only a few years later when he visited - they're a forgiving lot. One of their many good points!

I wanted to do a Forum T-shirt photo with that statue of Lincoln, but actually it is all covered in scaffolding for cleaning right at the moment.

I hope this is helping on the Valvestate amp issue...

Cheers - C

I am surprised to hear about your Lincoln statue.

Have you ever tried to run away carrying a Marshall amp?

Especially as certain private interests in Britain were actively on the South's side in the American Civil War. It was an issue that divided politics in Parliament at the time. I've an idea the statue of Lincoln was partly about the government saying "let's get one thing straight..."

Also puts certain other country's noses out of joint that none of their famous historical figures are honored in that way.

Many streets named after Lincoln too, and even a couple of Jeffersons. I wonder what he'd make of that?

 - C

Jefferson was more of a Paris guy than a London guy.

He'd play Marshall's though -- the UK pride!

25 miles from me is a whole city named after Lincoln. And it was the seat of parliament way before our current capital.

Spooky eh? Time to get Mulder and Skully involved.

That's putting it very mildly!

And yet we've named streets after him - how galling would that be for the fellow? His worst enemy... rather admires him? And I tell you what, we're not great ones for naming streets and airports and such after famous people. All those Lincoln, Jefferson and Washington streets are very much the exception to the rule.

This is the perplexing thing. Every 4th July you ceremoniously flip us the finger of history in a way that would warm Washington and Jefferson's hearts. And in return we just persist in respecting them and liking all of you.

What can you do?

...Pheasant stew calling from downstairs.

See y'all... - C

There's no "independence" type celebration in the UK?
Defeat of the Barbarians?
Guy Fawkes?
Overthrow the monarchy?

Guy fawkes wasnt any part of any kind of independance, he was a failiure. We celebrate a failed revolutionary. You couldnt really call it a celebration. Its more a excuse for shops to sell fireworks to anyone regardless of age, who then go and terrorize old people and pets.

And it's not a public holiday. And we do our best to kinda forget precisely what it's all about 'cos let's face it, a national celebration involving burning someone on a pyre is pretty obnoxious really. Let's not even get into the religious aspects of it. These days we just call it Bonfire Night and try not to think too hard about it at all...

As to the others: no independence day in Britain. Independence from whom?

Overthrow of the monarchy? As Niki recently lamented we have very conspicuously not overthrown the monarchy: merely swept them neatly away into a dusty constitutional corner.

Defeat of the barbarians? Which barbarians? Most of Europe regards us as the embodiment of all things barbarian! (And as our notional heirs, you too!)

In Britain every day is "long live barbarianism day"!!

:D :D - C

PS ...Yes, I recommend a Valvestate Marshall, or better still a proper tube/valve driven one...

In Canada we have also swept the British monarchy under the rug, but that doesn't stop us from using Victoria day as an excuse to skip work and drink beer every may!!!

Also I really do recommend Marshall/Strat combo's. I just like the clean channel on my Fender amps better. But if room/budget permit, i am definitely gonna pick up another Marshall. (I regret selling it, that's what you get for listening to women in regards to 'having too much' Guitar stuff.)

plays Marshall VS30R
the amplifier overdrive has that crunch
that makes you not need any overdrive/ distortion pedals
my amplifier overdrive channel volume always below 1
and with the guitar volume knob at even only 2
i can already get my tone

it is also good for direct recording to computer
using the lineout

Had my budget set on the Fender Super-Sonic halfstack (Blonde) when out of the blue - Best Buy put the Marshall AVT150 halfstack (AVT412 angle CAB) on sale for less than $500 as a model close out. I bought it. I did change the tube out for a Groove Tube model. I did'nt notice any change in sound though. I wanted the bottom straight cab but can't get one here in Alaska. Sort of wanted a full stack just to have it. The built in effects bite.. I use the outboard pedals.
I have only been playing for a year, but let me tell you the AVT150 sounds great I am always surprised at the sounds I can get out of it. I mostley play the acoustic and clean channels. Not much into the distortion channels yet. Till last week when I got a Telecaster I played the Players Deluxe Strat through this amp.

I do not know if any one has tried this but I will be buying the MG straight cab (Only CAB I could find in Alaska ) and switch the speakers out with Eminence Red Coat The Governor 12 inch ones. This will serve as the bottom of my stack. THE MG CAB is the same dim as the AVT412 CAB

I still want the Fender Super-Sonic... Just wil have to wait a few years...

Why do I need a full stack? Becuase the folks in my house are lazy, at 10am on xmas day they still were not up, thank god I had a halfstack with power as I played "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" with spurts of Amazing Graze till everyone woke up. I think the neighboors heard as well...... I think with a fullstack they may get up faster next year.... Also the stack impresses my little nephew who I am trying to get hooked on to music and guitars...

If your going to buy a mg straight fronted 4x12 then use both cabs. Spread them out though, the top cab will take your head off in a house.

I figured out how to post a picture- so here is a pic of the Two fenders I play through the AVT150. The archtop is a SAMICK Greg Bennett LaSalle JZ-2. The Blue Strat is the Players Deluxe and the Telecaster is the FSR Western special edition. The telecaster sounds real nice through the Marshall clean channels. (I have yet to try the two distortion channels)

I never thought of spreading the speakers out... If this is the way to go I can buy another AVT412 angle CAB here in Alaska and not fight with moding a MG412. Will have to think this out! But the CAB's stacked just has got to look cool..... As far as LOUD in my house, it does not matter.
Anyway here is a pic of the AVT150 with the AVT412 I have the stack set on a AMP stand only becuase I had the stand not becuase of any sound changes...
