Hi Everyone

I recorded an instrumental with my new strat. I used my Digitech and am happy with the results considering the recording equipment I have. The other thing is that I grew up playing and practicing Classic Rock and Heavy Metal. This song sounds more like elevator music, but was totally inspired by playing my strat. This really does not sound like something I would normally write. But I am getting older now....(37 hehe)

Anyway, I have copywrited it and I would like to share with anyone who is willing to listen. If you are, I will shoot the MP3 file to you in an email. I would also be interested in your opinions of it after you listen to it, as I will use whatever you think to try to improve. Also if you would like I have some other music I recorded that is more like what I would normally do, if you want to hear the contrast that the Strat has inspired. I hope this is allowed here. If not I apologize in advance to the moderators.

So, which way did you record? Directly into the sound card from the output channel of your amp or did you use a USB analog/digital converter? Just curious. Thanks.

First, I was using the headphone out in mono. Then I used a 1/4" to RCA converter. Then I split the RCA wire with a RCA Y connector into my very old (80's) cheap stereo (Yorx brand). Then used the headphone out of the stereo into my $100 usb turntable that has a 1/8" stereo input. The reason I did this is because of how I had to rig my kids toy drum machine.

Then it dawned on me that I had a 1/4" to 1/8" converter so I could go directly into the turntable. I recorded this like this with my toy drum machine track.

I used the Audacity software to record it and did nothing to process the sound, other then mix the levels and blend the two guitar tracks left and right.

I am a newbie at recording

Thanks man, I just sent two songs. One with the strat, and one thrashing out on my Ventura. They are rough one take cuts, but my first so I am a bit proud. Either way it was fun

Be careful in sending any of your music without copyrighting it. Anyone can take your music, copyright it, and use it as their own. Please believe me when I tell you that there are people out there that wouldn't think twice about doing this. Go to the U.S. government copyright office for a tutorial about doing this. You can copyright a single song, or a group of songs as a collection. Either way, it costs $30. Best of luck with your music!

Hey, yes I got it I re listened to them again, they sound good first one definitely a strat sound... and the rhythm sounds good too... one thing I can recommend is ..you can eventually get one of many software programs to do the drums and get more realistic ... that would help a lot also with your songs .it would make them sound more alive :) but yeah both songs are good... and your guitars sound really nice I like the recording take you got from your strat more so than the other guitar.... but yeah they sound good man congrats... :)

Thanks Synk

The strat take is definitely more natural sounding. The heavy one was still going through my stereo instead of direct from the preamp like the strat and uses a lot of preamp gain obviously. But I think I could play with the sound a bit more even going direct. Its not exactly like what it sounds like coming through my amp. The recording through the stereo seems to have more buzzy distortion than what comes out of the amp.

Going clean through the strat and more direct did prodice the more natural sound.

Yea my kids toy drum machine has limitations, but it keeps my in time, sort of anyway;)

Hi belphedeus

I sent the songs, thanks for listening. I used my old Digitech 2101 that I bought brand new in 1994. I put the stock tubes back in it recently, I changed them to Groove Tubes shortly after I got it. I rolled them and was surprized as one of the tubes sounded real good and the other a bit weak, so I put the good one in v1 and the weak one in v2 and it sounded good to me.

I am looking forward to your feedback

Hey firstrat...thanks i have received the track in the mail!
What a coincidence!!I use the 2101 too...have 2 of the units, most of rig are from Digitech, other than the 2101 i own the Digitech GNX3000 and the RP12.I love the sounding of the strat in Hypnosis...in my opinion the rhythm guitar level was a lil to loud as when the other guitar plays the solo its kinda confusing which to hear.... but i could be wrong.Edge was nice too.Overall its great to hear a nice recording like that from a home studio!!Well done!

Guys, I really appreciate the nice comments. I was kinda thinking that you would be a little harder on me  , especially since this post was pretty self serving  . Thanks so much for listening.

belphedeus

I also use an ADA MP-2, which I haven't recorded with yet, but I have heard its speaker similators are even better than digitechs. It lets you choose between 4x12 and 2x12 cabs too.

Yes its been well over decade since I have updated any equipment, except my new strat. I really thought the ADA was the superior preamp to the Digitech, but since the strat, I am really liking the clean to mid gain sounds on the digitech. The ADA has not really shined with the strat yet, but I have limited play time on it with the strat. The high gain sounds on the digitech are pretty good too. At the time, the 2101 was best thing Digitech had made for guitar, and as they updated the product, I did not really see many improvements outisde of the digital effect side. Then they seemed to go in the modeling direction with the Johnson Milinium. Since all I really wanted was reverb and delays, I never felt I needed better digital effects than the 2101 offers. My question to you is, Has Digitech come up with something better than the 2101 for guitar? I am not familiar with the GNX3000, please tell me about it. Lastly, do you care to share any patches or settings that you like with the 2101. In the 15 years I have had it, I think I have only scratched the surface of what it can do.

Oh I will also play with the recording a bit seeing if adjust the level on the rhythm guitar helps. My initial thought was that it sounded fuller, and the lead still stood out, but maybe that was the wrong approach. Also, I thought the rhythm was kinda the cool thing going on in that song, so I did not want to take away from it more than the lead track already does.

You guys were both very selfless listening to this for me, and I really appreciate it and the feedback. Best wishes to you.

Hi firstrat...sorry i didnt see this thread was replied.

Well i'm not familiar with the ADA MP-2.....but it sounds like the GNX3000 has the particular function. Each patch has two amp channels where you can choose inclusive of the FX too.The amp channels there are amp simulation ranging from Mesa(Mark IIC, Dual Recto), Fender(Champ, Deluxe, BassmanTwin Reverb, Deluxe Reverb), Marshall(JTM45,100 Super Lead, JCM800, 900, 2000 etc), Vox and many more....same goes to the cabs ranging from 1x10 to 4x12 of all the leading brand amp cabs you can find.
I use the GNX3000 as a device to record my work and so far it has been helpful.
The only downside is the support for firmware upgrades...Digitech is slow with the unit.I still prefer using the 2101 as i have the PPC-210 option which lets me creates my custom algorithm.

Cool. It sounds like the 2101 still stacks up well. I would also like to upgrade to the ppc-210, and they can still be found on ebay.

I really have not checked out many modeling amps. I have always that "real" amps are still the way to go if you can afford them. That is what I like about the 2101, it has a real tube preamp
