Hi All,
I hope I'm not repeating this thread, if I am - Sorry.
I need info on how to block the floating trem on my 57 strat? How do I do it and do I add more springs or remove a spring or 2?

thanks for your help in advance!!!

It's a question oft asked.

You would add one or two more springs. You might be able to do it just by screwing down some on the claw screws in the back. But if you really want it down tight I would think about adding a spring or two. Slack off on the strings before you do this. Then tune up to pitch and check that the plate is flat to the body. Check intonation, string height, etc. You might have to make adjustments.

I'll give it a try, right now I have 3 springs, is there a special way I need to angle or attach the springs?

There *should* be the capability to attach two more springs to the block and the claw. I don't have a '57, so I don't know absolutely. I also cut a block of wood to jam in the gap between the block and the body.

If you find "The Fender Stratocaster Handbook: How To Buy, Maintain, Set Up, Troubleshoot, and Modify Your Strat" by Paul Balmer you'll see more than you will ever be able to do to make your strat Yours.

This is the book that gave me the best directions [and LOTS of pictures] about how to best block off my trem.

Hope it helped

Shane~

With advice I found here, I tightened the screws down on the front side of the trem, then tapped in a block of oak for a very snug fit, it really made a difference. With the wood tightening up the trem, springs don't really do much to help eccept to ground the trem.

It wasn't my idea, and I am not into cobble jobs normally, but it is a fix, although not recommended by Fender I bet.
