i need your opinion on new strat pickups im looking for something with that strat twang but with less are no hum, the hum is driving me mad on my higher gain stuff,,i use the bridge for high gain modded marshall tones and neck pickup for clean stuff i like position 2 were you get bridge and midle pickup as well for some melower high gain stuff the only thing im realy afraid of is to loose that nice fender tone im getting with my stock pickups..

any coments on here would be greatly apreciated i know allot of you have experimented with pups..
im new to strats i ve always been a les paul player so i know close to nothing about single coils..

If you want to go aftermarket pups I recommend WCR SR's. www.crcoils.com You'll have to check with Jim to see if he has any made as he only makes 1 batch of them a year.

I couldn't stand the noise on my MIM Strat, so I upgraded the pickups to a set of Fender Vintage Noiseless. Nice classic Strat tones (sounds very Hendrix-y to me), no hum and it has twang in the bridge and bridge/middle positions. I think they come on the non-custom shop Clapton strat, so if you can find one, play one so you know what it'll sound like. There are also probably some clips of people playing FVN equipped strats on youtube.

I agree with slinger, but instead I would go for the hot noiseless.

I would have to say +1 for the Vintage Noiseless. Pups are a bit of a subjective issue as everyone always seems to be searching for that "perfect tone" they always seem to hear in their head, but I found the VN's to be really great pups. I had put them in my '96 MIM for a while but I recently put Duncan's in there instead and the the VN's have now gone into my new Squire Standard. I'm also a big fan of the Lace Sensors too (particularly the Golds)...great sound and very quite. Depending on how much you are looking to spend, you also may wish to consider a set of Lindy Fralin's as well. I've never personally played them but I've heard a great many good things about them over the years. Then of course, you can't go wrong with Duncans either :D.

What I might suggest is just go into a larger music store such as a Guitar Center or Sam Ash and play a bunch of different Strats until you find the sound that your looking for then just ask the sales person what pickups are actually in that instrument then go buy yourself a set. Of course a word of caution is warranted here...that's how I actually ended up with my new Squire Standard...you could end up walking out the door with a new guitar! LOL!!!

Just my $.02 worth,
Jim

Check out www.kinman.com. I have a set of Traditional MK2's fitted to both my strats. They're a huge improvement in tone to the stock pickups and are also noiseless.

You could try the Lace Holy Grail's Noiseless.

The Best i've heard...

My friend had a '62 Strat with Lace Holy Grails...and they were absolutely amazing, well worth the money. Crispy loud, and no hum. awesome Noiseless pickups.

Absolutely: Area 67 for the neck position, Area 58 for the middle position and Area 61 for bridge position!
