I was just thinking about this a few days ago. Seems like most everybody who did their part to make the Strat stand out has their own sig (Clapton, Johnson, Gilmour, etc.) , so why not Hendrix?

Is it a licensing deal form his estate? Because he's a lefty? Or something deeper than that?

I know they've done a special piece here and there, but why hasn't their been a production model? And they've certainly got every other facet covered (pedals, amps, straps, gig bags, etc.)

Just curious that's all.

The hendrix estate are too greedy to accept fenders royalty offer.

There were several Hendrix models between the years 1980 and 2001. Some were Hendrix inspired and others were tributes all made by Fender. Also some Custome Shop ones. These are all collectable.

i would not support a hendrix sig strat
for the simple fact that jani hendrix reaps
the rewards. jani hendrix has no right to have
full control of jimi's estate. jani was a step sister
that only knew jimi about 4 years befor his death
in 1970 and she was only 9 years old at that time.
she has ripped jimi's real brother off leon hendrix.
and she continues to market crap that would make
jimi turn in his grave. and the list goes on ond on.
so i would not support a hendrix strat just to put more
money in jani's pocket.

This is a good page describing various "Hendrix Strats" over the years.

There may be an update to this page somewhere ...

The price for using the "Hendrix" name may be too high to keep a guitar reasonably priced.

Probably, the Hendrix estate probably wants a way higher royalty rate than fender wants to pay.

ever since the Dirt devil Fred Astaire ad, I get a real feeling of distaste when a company uses or implies 'endorsement' from dead celebrities.

Certainly Hendrix' name is forever tied to the Stratocaster, but that's a lot different than them actually getting his permission, (and no the executor of his estate is not quite the same thing.) Sure we might look at it as a given he would do it, but he didn't. Those Pepsi ads were bad enough.
Y'know thinking about this stuff makes me think Yoko gets a bit too much of a bad rap... Certainly Linda and Paul wanting to hire her relatives to manage them, and actually starting paperwork before even consulting the other Beatles, who wanted a different manager had as much or more to do with the breakup, and secondly , and back on topic(-ish,) Yoko has done a stellar job protecting Johns image, no lame commercials, and the refusal of a gaudy memorial for him in central park, in favour of a stately plaque means she is a much better steward of his memory than other celebs have had.--The vacuum thing , Hendrix pepsi ads, the countless Elvis-obilia that is somewhat sickening...

heh, better lay off the beer while on the forum

I've seen this a couple times now, your list there missed frusciante, and why doesnt anyone talk about morello on here?
lots of people just dont like the idea of exploiting brands, they just play what they got and what they like and what they believe to them sounds good, jani's a b*&!$, but to some people life is about more than money.

Believe me, for every person I named there's many more left out. I was just wondering why not Hendrix since he has long been associated with Strats and obviously admired by many.

But I had no idea of this whole Jani business you all spoke of. But I had a bad feeling that money was a major factor as to why a production sig Strat hasn't happened or a CS version available.

In their defense though the pedals do get rave reviews.

Maybe since Hendrix played mostly stock Strats there aren't enough special features Fender could add to make a Hendrix Strat worth buying when a 60s RI would do just fine.

Now on this point i couldnt agree more. The whole hendrix estate is rotten, constantly re-hashing his classic albums and releasing tripe that was never meant to see the light of day. Now all those pieces of rubbish were released before the Hendrix estate took control, but you saw em for what they were and they were priced accordingly. The estates main goals from what i can tell of past performance are making money and venerating Al Hendricks to the status of hero. Which he was anything but.

I think managment of the estate should of gone to buddy, billy noel and mitch. It owes them far more than it does Al, leon or Jani.

jimi's strats were mostly stock.
if you have 1967 or 68 original
or reissues you pretty much have
what he used. the woodstock strat was a 1968
and his favorite strat was the black and white
1967 strat. i read at the time of his death he only
owned 5 guitars and had a net worth of $20,000
jani is rideing on the legacy of jimi and has no
right to the estate. al hendrix has failed his son
and possibly somwere down the line destroyed his
legacy. unless jani is removed it could very well happen.
i feel if any one should run jimi's estate it should be eddie kramer.

Hey Stratheads-

Fender came out with the "Voodoo Strat" Some years ago- You can find them on E-bay now. I wouldn't mind having one to mount up on the wall as tribute.

The estate thing is kinda sad. I think the important thing here is the the legacy of Jimi lives on in OUR souls as we listen to his music, discuss his playing, and aspire to be as courageous in our playing as he once was.

Well I think we're all entitled to have our own SIG Strat. I mean I could used the extra bucks when they buy mine. 8) :D
