What is the difference between the Fender Strat Classic and Classic Player guitars?

I really like two types of strat sounds and they are two different extremes. First I love the 50s Buddy Holly tone of his guitar, Secondly I love the Jimi hendrix tone of his guitar. Can someone recommend a model that would sound like both of them? Or if I were to get a specific guitar for each sound which ones would you recommend?

Can I get a hendrix sound out of a 50s reissue Strat or a Holly sound out of a 60s strat?

Lastly, can a $999 stand strat produce the same sounds as these priceir classic models and signature models.

Really, they were both stock strats before there were different models. I would suggest that the main differences aside from playing style (affects tone y'know, aggressiveness etc,) would come down to amplification, old fender amps/ versus marshalls, and overdrive/wah etc.

I find I can get pretty close to either's sound with my American standard.

If I remember correctly Buddy Holly played a 58 model. There are several books out on the history of the Stratocaster. I have "The Stratocaster Chronicles" and both musicians are mentioned in the book along with their instruments and set ups... Aside from their playing style most of their sound would depend on the amp and effects as twlevebar mentioned earlier. I do know Hendrix was fond of a particular distortion pedal whose brand and name escapes me at the moment...

This is true, Buddy played a 58 'straight out of the box" in his words.

And Jimi used a 'Fuzz Face' by Arbiter.
