what's the difference between polyester and urethane?
are they both near-impossible to wear out naturally?

polyester tends to go on a lot thicker although it doesnt have to.

Hello JTlee9153,

Urethane is more bulletproof than polyester.
Nitrocellulose can be painted over polyester
but doesn't bond well wth urethanes.

Cheers.

Really? I didn't klnow that.

I do know that a lot of manufacturers, including Martin and PRS, do a layer of vinyl sealer before putting on either a nitro or urethane finish. I don't know whether Fender use vinyl. Likely they do, though.

BTW, JTLee9153: a lot of people get confused by the term poly, not realising that polyester and polyurethane are very different finishes. And there's more misunderstanding because we tend to abreviate nitrocellulose to nitro, where auto finishers seem to call it cellulose and sometimes appear not even to know what that is short for (in my experience).

It's a world of bewilderness...!

Cheers - C

Well, my 15 year old Strat still looks almost exactly the way it did when I bought it. in fact aside from a couple dings on the back of the neck, the body looks brand new when I polish it up. And this guitar got dropped off stage once.

I'm looking at this schaller straplock, but it looks like the strap button could slide right out or something...is this secure?

I think these are the Schaller/Fender ones. i use those, but I bought em at a shop:

Check and make sure the screw that is in the pack is the same as the one in oyur guitar, they seem to vary a bit, so you don't want to put in a narrower screw, or it will eventually strip.

Hello All,

Most of Fender guitars are primed with
a sealer called Fullerplast which is
a polyester product.

Cheers.

PS I have used Polyester on
numerous projects.
