Hi all, I have just purchased my first strat! It is the American Standard. I normally play acoustic and my string preference are Elixirs. I do like the factory set that came on my strat (super bullets 3250L) and would welcome any feedback concerning Fender brand strings.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

I don't think that there is any other topic that could raise more debate than string choice. The truth is that it's really all about what works for you.

I don't know what it is exactly but I think that D'Addario makes the best sounding and playing electric strings but I can't stand their acoustic strings.

On the other hand almost every one of my favorite players uses Ernie Ball. So.. Like I said, try a few and figure out what works.

I couldn't agree with you more. I was mainly interested in feedback on the Fender brand strings.

I don't like Fender string and personally have not met anyone who is really passionate about them.

I've tried many a strings throughout my playing career. Dean Markley, GHS boomers, Gibson LP's, D'addario, DR, Fender Bullets, and Earnie Ball Super Slinkys.

I really love Ernie Ball Super Slinkys, they are by far the best bang for your buck. DR makes great strings too but kind of expensive. I don't by into that coated string nonsense, sure the tone stays a bit longer but they fray and are very expensive. You can always clean nickel strings.

Check out the EB's

I like fender strings so much i buy them bulk. I also like diaddario and ernies but theres something in the tone of fenders that clinch it for me.

Saying that i can remember the days i swore by diaddario and even before that when it was ernies or nothing. So dont put too much faith in any one brand is my advice. Just use em until you dont like em anymore, then try something else.

Also on tone, i'm playing far softer stuff then i usually play when gigging, i even stopped using plectrums. So when the time comes around again that i have to punish a guitar i will probably go back to diaddario's for their unrivaled longevity

I like the Fender strings that came on my Strat a few months ago, enough to buy a couple of packs of them.
I need to give them a few more months to see if I'll stick to them but so far so good.

Maybe it is just me, but I don't notice a huge difference in the strings I use. I tend to buy what is on sale. Usually 10s or 11s, but I will buy Ernie Ball, GHS, D'Addario. I just don't get the really cheap stuff. I find the major brands to all be pretty good, and I use them all. Fender brand strings tend to be a little pricey, but they do sound nice. I will get them on occasion, when I find a good deal.
I have started using Ernie Ball Power Slinkys(11,14,18,28,38,48) and I really like that set.

I just restrung my guitar for the first time with Fender Bullets 9's. After breaking the E string, I got them on pretty easily and they sound really nice. I was surpised how long they lasted before needing a change. Not too many people carry single Bullet strings though so be careful.

I've used most of them at one time or another.

Used GHS Boomers a lot when I was in my metal phase.

Dean Markley's always broke easily for me and I though they sounded a bit weak.

Fenders - never had much luck with them.

DR's? Overpriced junk to me. I put them on and they last maybe three days of blues playing with me before they break. Some people love them though.

Ernie Balls are good.

I keep going right back to D'Addario's though, no matter what I try. They last a lot time, I never have to worry about them breaking (and I play pretty hard), they sound great, they're very consistent, and I like the tone.

I know people who swear by D'Addarios, tried 'em on my Tele but didn't like 'em. I put Fender 250TRs on it and won't switch now. So, I put 150Rs on my Strat and LIKE 'em.
