Hey all, would like to share my new Strat story with you. Ordered one from Best Buy last week and received it on Friday. On Saturday I had to take it back because the fret edges were very rough going up and down the neck and was very uncomfortable to play. How could Fender send this guitar from the factory like this? I thought this was unacceptable for a US made guitar. Any thoughts???

It is winter.

The wood can do weird things, like shrink a bit, while the frets don't.

It could heal itself when warmer wetter weather returns, but the fret sprout will probably return next winter. They just need a little filing.

A good music store would fix it for you. Too bad Best Buy isn't exactly a music store.

yeah, like orville says, winter can cause some weird stuff. another thing too, ordering from best buy, I am guessing online? your guitar may have shipped from one climate to a drastically different one in a short period of time. i don't know where you are, but if your guitar went from California to say Minnesota in a short period of time, it would have gone from one temperature range to another, probably not heated for much of the shipping, and the humidity of the air would also have changed drastically. This would probably be more prominent than if your guitar got to acclimatize in a store.

Thanks fellas. I guess that makes sense. The guitar did ship from Indianapolis and it has been super cold back the lately. I think I should order from a warm climate company only. Oh well, I ordered another USA made Strat. Sienna Sunburst with a maple neck form AMS Music Supply and it's coming from their warehouse in Reno, Nevada. A little bit warmer climate to where I live in northern California. Should receive it today. Thanks. :D

A lot of people hate GC, but really I don't think too many people advocate buying an instrument by description only over taking the opportunity to handle and inspect same, when given the chance. The key is if you can physically hold and handle the Guitar before buying you have a chance to identify any flaws, or deficiencies in workmanship. not to say nothing will ever slip by you, but if you buy from a catalogue or online (essentially the same thing,) you don't have the chance to see anything beforehand.

I have ordered many guitar from online retailers. This is my first real problem I have encountered. The reason I like doing this is I want to buy a new pristine guitar that has not been played and handled by every Tom, Dick and Harry. I know it's a gamble but one I don't mind taking.

I guess I don't get the point.

So now you can buy from a place that can't even do warranty work or repairs and still pay the same price you would from Mom & Pop.

1 of the things I found interesting about the New American Strats is that a lot of the parts are now made in Korea, China, or Tiawan. So I guess they are essentially Assembed in America Strats!
Might as well by a St. Blues or Reverend if that's all you're getting is a guitar assembled in Californicate.
With everything I hear about the porous border of California, maybe all you are getting is a MIM that's MIA.

The nice thing about GC is that you can try out your guitar for a month at home in your own environment and return it if you don't like it. Don't discount that. You will know if you want to keep the guitar when you play it in your own room and on your own amp.

I bought my AmDlx from GC for that reason.

BTW you don't find that kind of permissiveness in any part of the world, believe me.. just make sure you have a 10% coupon to knock off some of that overhead they charge you.

I got my AmDlx Ash for $1118 which is a fair price for new.

Cheers
Hisham

thats also why i went to gc to be able to take one home for a while, and when i recieved the new one (am dlx) it had chips in the finish like some one walked into a wall with it and the setup was pure awefull, so they orderd me another one,

i just think with the holidays and such its been busy at the factory and have let a few slip by. so i am still waiting for mine to come in, it seems they wont have them for another month, i dont mind cause i can still play the loner till it gets here
