On the box it shows a little bar by the strings. Was it supposed to come with it or was it just on the box for show? Thanks in advance

If you bought the instrument at "Target" or "Best Buy"...well...I'll refrain from any comments in that regard specifically but chances are you're not going to be able to get the trem bar...if it wasn't in the box, chances are they're not going to have one just laying around the way a real music store would.

That said, you can go to any decent music store (Guitar Center, Sam Ash, Music Go Round, etc) and simply purchase one. Do take your guitar with you as they come in different thread sizes...you will want to make sure you get one that actually fits, but they are relatively inexpensive...usually around $5 - $8.

Next time you go to buy a guitar...go to an actual music store instead of a department store. The first time you walk into some place like a Guitar Center, you're whole life will change forever :D.

Peace,
Jim

Of coarse there is always the possibility that the guitar featured on the packaging is a slightly different model than the one inside. Does your guitar have a little hole to the side of the bridge for you to screw in a trem bar?

yea...good point. It could just be a hard tail and not a tremolo bridge in which case it would use a trem bar.

This is true...sort of. The instruments being sold at these places are technically "Fender" and "Gibson" (or rather "licensed by")but they are typically -very- low quality imports. I've seen the Fender "Starcasters" at Target's and honestly, the $100 Squires are better instruments (and that's not really saying much). This last holiday season, I even saw some Washburns...or more specifically, "Lyon by Washburn" models at my local Aldi's grocery store for around $80.

For what these guitar are and considering they are intended as a first guitar for kids and such, I guess they're ok, but personally I'd never buy a guitar from Best Buys or such (not even a cheap one). If you want a set of golf clubs or a bowling ball, you go to a "pro shop" and not K-Mart and if you want a guitar, you go to a music store. Just my opinion.

Peace,
Jim

Look at best Buy online, and in select stores. they offer almost the whole line, just not everywhere yet. You can even order the artist models online. At least the Clapton, and Eric Johnson ones.

I still agree that buying there would be last resort, but it is an option for people who don't have access to a good guitar store.

I'm not really to thrilled about best buy or target selling Strats and such. I can just imagine somebody coming up to me one day and ask if my 3,500.00 custom shop strat was purchased at best buy. "Hey they sell those at best buy dont they?" .....There not selling anything of any quality and thats fine because it's intended as a kids first guitar or a spontaneous birthday gift for somebody. "hey maybe joey would like a guitar for his birthday". I just think anybody seriously considering taking up guitar and taking lessons should go to a music store where the sales reps are usually muscians and can really help you with your pruchase. Though I'm sure 20 years from now there will be this new rock guitar hero that remembers his first guitar was bought at best buy.

Eh I didn't think it was that great a guitar but it was a birthday present. So yeah may as well make use of it.
