I just took off the nylon cover on a pick guard I installed on my 50th anniversary Strat, and for some reason there is static noise coming out of the amp when i rub the area under the strings where my fingers usually rest.

Is that a grounding problem? or is the pick guard not shielded enough ? or is there something else?
cheers
Hisham

I would think the pickguard probably isn't shielded, but it could be several reasons.... :)

It did have the metal adhesive film on it though.

is it touching any grounded object ? because if not then it is not working correctly.... it should be touching the pot casing inside the guitar or anything that is "ground" :)

I don't know ... I have to check ... I have a hunch that its not and that its not that big either... what do I do if it doesn't reach the pots or anything "grounded"?

Well It probably is touching the pots , in the very rare case that it is not, then the shield will not work... so you can just make sure any part of it is in contact with ground, also is there a cable that goes to the back of the guitar and is soldered to the claw? because that should also be the case so your body acts as a shield too... everything should be grounded to your body too but who knows .. I remember a while ago that little connection on one of my guitars was broken so that particular guitar would catch a lot of hum from everywhere... you might want to check that too...... :)

Some techs claim that the shielding should be connected to the ground connection on the plug jack. Thus the guitar is grounded through the jack, to the amp. I am assuming you are plugged into a 3 prong wall socket. That in turn grounds the amp.
