i have relatively small hands and would like to get into some Jimi. just wondering which neck might be the thinner and a better option for me. or is my 08 standard about the smallest that i'm going to find?

mmm I dont know if there are thinner necks.. but it certainly would be nice... one think I can recommend is a smaller scale neck which is not the same but it will also feel more comfortable... for example les pauls are made in the 24 3/4 scale... also I remember seeing somewhere online a 24 3/4 squier tele which was nice... also there are the 24 inches scale mustangs which Im sure would feel even better to you.. I d actually like to own one smaller than 24 3/4 scale axe it would be nice because I would use a really heavy gauge to compensate tension and it would sound nice too... but yes I would like to know if there are thinner necks out there and if there are strats made with them :D

Do you want a thinner neck or a more narrow neck? Two different things. A thinner neck means the neck is not as thick from fretboard to back of neck. A more narrow neck means the nut width, and width at 12th fret is smaller. Which are you looking for?

57 reissues have the v shaped neck easier to get your hands around, but price tags are pretty steap.

i have issue getting my thumb over the E string and muting the A while still having enuff hand to cover the rest of the fretboard.

hearing this, would you think that i would benfit more from a "thinner" neck (from fretboard to back) or from a different shaped neck?

Both will aid you. Traditionaly larger V and U shapes are said to aid this, whilst C's are said to be for players adopting more of a shredders 'little pinky everywhere' approach. I do not find that though. My soft V necked strat is great for chords down the bottom end. Whilst my enigma ala mexico is a U shape on a 37mm width nut and great for both chords and lead despite its bulky back end.

What i would suggest is that you try a few different guitars. Necks vary from finisher to finisher. Someone may sand heavy and someone else light. It all makes a huge difference in how the guitar feels to you. Fender necks are not like peavey necks (that are all pretty much the same) The builders/finishers have their own judgements as what needs to be done.
