I havent been playing a long time but want to get one of the american standard models but dont know which to get i play everything from metal to punk and anything in between right now i have an epi zakk which i replaced the pickups for the zakks so i have a metal guitar just looking to put something else in my collection any help someone can offer me

I think one of the standard American series 3 single coils should do just fine.

Go to your local music store and try out the ones your interested in. After hearing them you should be able to decide on what sound your looking for.

Pickups, finish of the guitar, highway one has a big headstock :P 70's style, frets are different also highway one has nice jumbo frets thats the main reason I love so much my highway one neck.. and well also the bridge in the american standard is a 2 point floating bridge, the highway one has the 6 screw tremolo bridge.... and ofcourse the price.... highway is more affordable and it is a heck of an axe american made :)

I personally wouldn't buy an HSS if you've already got an Epi with HH seems your set at the humbucker position, the SSS configuration on a strat will give you more variety in your arsenal.
