Hi guys,

I have an opportunity to purchase what is being touted as a Vintage 91 SRV Stratocaster (Signature Series) However my issue is that the SRV was not released until 1992 - so how does this guitar have a 91XXXX serial number??

I am in Australia and I contacted Fender Australia with the serial number and they told me that they do not have records for guitars that old.

How can I verify this guitar?

Yep i know that thanks... but as the SRV was not released until 1992, it should have a SE92XXX serial number. That is what has me confused.

Well I did that and it told me 1989!! WTF???

A different neck perhaps? Does it have the SRV signature on the headstock?

For all wants and purposes it looks like an SRV in every way!!

Sometimes early models get a year old serial number. Most 2008 American Standards have 2007 Serial numbers for example. Lefty bridge, SRV sig on front of headstock, gold hardware, SRV chunky neck... Things I would check.

If the guitar dater website says its an 89 it must be so there might be other reasons behind that guitar too ........ also could be a fake ....
