I think you will be happy with either one. You just gotta go to a music store and play them until you find the one that fits your taste. They are both great guitars.

I just got my black and white Strat. And I love it dude. But you want a Tele if you want to play older 50's and 60's covers because they were very popular back then.

Rock on with which ever one you choose.

(Though I'm partial to the Strat.)

Go for the feel of the guitar as well. I won't even plug it in if the feel isn't right. I own a strat, but played this very cool '70's Tele a few days ago. The feel of the guitar was amazing. I plugged it in and was blown away by the tone this thing had. I was never a Tele Fan...I didn't like the look...but the tone is there.

I love both these guitars. Teles have a brighter sound and are great for a strait forward meat and potatos guitar. It's a great workhorse guitar. Very little ever goes wrong with them.

Strats have a smoother sound. Not as bright. I play more Strats. I like how versitile they are. You can play a wider range of music with a Strat.

You might want to look at who you listen to and find out what they play.

Brad Pasley: Tele
Eric Clapton: Strat
David Gilmour: Strat
Andy Summers (The Plice): Tele
W. Jennings: Tele

I hope this helps.

depends on what you play, but like everyone said, play both.... they're both great guitars with slightly different tones and uses, so just try as many as you can in your price range and see which one fits you best

I prefer the picking action on the Strat.

I own several Stratocasters and Telecasters. I really like both models but always pick up the Stratocaster when I have to be at my best. I have nine Strats and three Teles and believe it or not - they're all different. The best I've ever played is the Eric Johnson Stratocaster - it's astounding to me. In any event I think if you use a tremolo bar at all ....the decision is made for you. I use it sparingly but it's really nice to have if needed. Good luck - you can't go wrong with Fender but do be aware - find a good one! Every Strat is not the same and every Tele is not the same.

Hi, only you can make the decision of which guitar to buy-Tele or Strat. What works for me or what works for others may not work for you.

I can suggest that when you play them, also compare them side-by-side. Look at everything: action, bridge, fret detail, etc. When playing them make sure there is not any dead notes anywhere on the fretboard, make sure when you bend a note to a different pitch it doesn't choke out especially in the higher fretted notes such as on the 13th fret through the 21st or 22nd fret.
If it feels good in your hands, has the desired action & tone, plays like butter, that's the guitar for you no matter what it is. Good Luck!!

My opinion: I wish they would make Teles with a Tremolo Bridge. I know Fender has just started with the new 2007 J5 Triple Tele Deluxe, but I would like to see different types of Teles with Tremolos. How about you?
