I prefer the feel of 4 springs, but tend to go heavy on the bar at times and have broken a couple of them. Would switching to 3 help with this problem?
Thanks!

I am thinking yes because there would not be a lot of pull from the springs so you can push in the tremolo with less force ....... I didnt know that it was possible to brake one of the tremolo bars

Thanks Synk.
Thats exactly what I'm thinking and why I'm thinking of going to 3 springs.
Honestly, I think I'm jusst hoping someone would talk me out of it, lol. I really like the feel of 4.
As for busting them, I do alot of quick yanks and dives and I think that may have something to do with it.

Yeah thats cool, on the other hand I know that with more springs you will feel the guitar more solid and with more sustain.. I have tried it before and I could feel the difference ..... I thought tremolo bars were made of an unbrakeable material like hardened steel or whatever..... but apparently they are not..... :)

Just my personal observation:

If I'm breaking parts on my guitar because of my playing style I would seriously look into changing my playing style while still keeping the desired effects without abusing my equipment.

A very good point.

Strat trems were never designed for 'reign in blood' renditions. You need a kahler for that stuff.
You can go down to 2 springs on your trem quite easily. I tried 1 spring once but found i couldnt ever get the bridge to sit right after using the trem.

Now thats just crazy talk
Its not like I am smashing the thing. I wont change how I play, but will try to adjust whatever I have to in order for it to allow me to keep playing the way I do.
Been a Strat player from pretty much Day 1. These babies were built to be played hard.
