does anybody have a better experience with third party strat cases other than the molded case that comes with the AmDlx? for some reason ... 8) ......I keep hitting the guitar in the metal frame of the molded case... and that problem wont get better with time........any good ideas besides telling me to take care are welcome  :lol:Cheers

Cases have always been an issue with me with respect to Fender guitars. The case G&G built for the Gilmour is probably one of their better designs. The SKB case built for the '97 Plus series was as well. In my opinion, what they build for PRS is still the best in the business, and G&G tells me they will build that style for a Strat, on order, but it will cost you some bucks.

Considering they ship with them, i would guess so.

Yeah, I went back-and-forth with the guys there on it. They said they decided to offer the cases for the AmDlx models seperate to keep the cost of the instrument as low as possible. I have no issues with the shop otherwise. As a matter of fact, they have hooked me up several times-over now, and I have become good friends with a few of the guys at the store. I'm not worried about it. :)

So which one is better ... the SKB or the tweed in terms of durability and protection...?

As always this is just my opinion, but it's been my experience that NOTHING beats an SKB for protection specifically. I don't remember where I saw it any more, but many years back I saw a video where a telecaster was basically tossed out the back end of a mini van or something going at highway speeds with the case and it's occupant literally bouncing down the road and the instrument was fine. I really reminded me of the old Samsonite commercials. Now I honestly don't recall if that was one of their ATA flight cases or not...those are certainly built to more rigorous standards, but you get the point.

Now that said, how many people are really going to toss their guitar case out the window of a moving car? Yea...sure...accidents do happen but... So in my mind any relatively decent hardshell usually does a good job....Fender, SKB, Gator, TKO, etc.. If you are planning on taking your guitar on an airplane, I would recoomend the afore mentioned ATA flight cases as those are specifically designed for the rigors or airports and flight travel and if you really want the absolute maximum protection for your instrument...well...there you go. However in regards to the OP's original question, the cases are going to have aluminum all over the place! LOL!!!

Alrighty, just my $.02 worth,
Jim

My new Telecaster came with a tweed G&G case. No aluminum in sight.
