I recently got a new rectangular case off Ebay for $50. The inside is plush and protects the guitar. Have a look there you should find something for a decent price.

But don't the rectangular cases have that aluminum rim, I remember it did from a 2008 AMSTD strat I had a few month back for a short while ..... or is it too far away that its not in the path of guitar as you put in the case?

it has the aluminum edge but its not in the way for one thing and i find that the molded cases are a little top heavy and has a greater chance of closing ontop of your instrument while your trying to put it away or take it out ...

I just got a tweed case off Amazon.com for the holidays. It was only $60 (with free shipping)..very nice, and no aluminum trim around the edges...the tweed wraps around and in. I don't know what brand the case actually is...I know it's not Fender, SKB or TKO, but it is a very nice case...very sturdy, gold chrome hardware, nice plush lining, solid plywood construction, etc..

Just a thought for ya!
Jim

In addition to the molded case, I bought a tweed G&G case to keep my Tele in. They are great cases and since they are rectangular the guitar space inside is huuuuge.

Me too (not from amazon, though) -- I just got one of these for a new Squier Tele. However, it turned out to be so nice, I gave it to my Fender Strat instead. Then I gave the Strat's molded SKB case to the Tele. All tweed and plush inside. Tremendous case for the money.

So which one is better ... the SKB or the tweed in terms of durability and protection...?

They also have tweed cases.

I made sure the case I bought didn`t have the aluminum around the edges but my MIA Strat with the new SKB case does have it.

I purchased one of these for my AmDlx last year:

http://www.gatorcases.com/productsdetail.aspx?LID=2&PID=15

...and have been very pleased with it. The shop I purchased the AmDlx from did not include the case, though I got a good deal on the guitar itself. I still wonder sometimes if I got taken by not getting a case with the very expensive guitar? Ha!
